Old way or new, it is a delayed dead ball. Batter can hit it.

I'm assuming you understood that the an illegal pitch will no longer advance the runner from the start of this thread. In your HR scenario, it's a HR.

I understood, I was talking about the old rule. Would an illegal pitch negate a walk-off HR? I brought it up because I have never seen this happen or thought of it. This would bring the fans of a possible winning HR out of the stands in a riot mode. Especially in a WCWS championship game......

If the result of the illegal pitch favors the offense, the batting team can certainly take that result. i.e. hit a double or HR or even a single with a runner scoring from 2nd....

This is the specific rule change.

    q. Illegal Pitch (Rule 10.8).
    (1) Recommendation. Change the standard effect of an illegal pitch to a ball on the batter only. Base runners will no longer advance one base unless forced because the batter is awarded first base when hit by an illegal pitch not swung at or ball four is an illegal pitch.
    (2) Effective date. Immediately.
    (3) Rationale. An illegal pitch has no effect on a base runner in softball since they cannot leave the base until the pitch is released. The committee felt that awarding a ball on the batter and a one-base advance for any runner was an excessive penalty on the pitcher’s illegal action.
    (4) Estimated budget impact. None.
    (5) Student-athlete impact. None.

    Maybe not ot? Pleas advise....
Based on what I'm reading, the rule is still the same: The batter will be awarded a ball, and the runner(s) will be awarded one base. National Pro Fastpitch got rid of the base award for runners, and from what I understand, the NCAA is considering doing the same. If the NCAA does change the rule, it won't happen before the start of the 2020 season.

I royally misread the rule. It has changed. My bad, CajunAmos.

I have no idea how I misread the rule or how I missed the bold and underlined words, but I did. My fault. You are correct, sir.
