No base award any longer on illegal pitch call, unless it makes it ball four.
Maybe not ot? Pleas advise....

Finally
the penalty is too harsh for an illegal pitch. i hope the rule is changed. when the rule was created, the rules committee decided that an illegal pitch was an equivalent to a balk, and thus the runners should advance, like in baseball. a balk is a move that may deceive the base runner. an illegal pitch in softball doesn't deceive the base runner one iota and thus doesn't justify the runners advancing in my book unless it creates ball four and the runners are forced.
I don't know if any other rule has had a more negative impact on our postseason success than the illegal pitch. They always seemed to "mysteriously" crop up during Super Regionals and the WCWS.
LOL Now that we got rid of the coach that was teaching our pitchers to crow hop, they change the rule. Fantastic.
I was thinking the same thing.
Because the call, so often, is subjective it should go as a non pitch much like the non subjective net ball in tennis. I can live with that unless the batter actually gets a hit in which case should ignore the call all together
Man...didn't that call cost is a Super at Michigan a few years back? Thanks, NCAA!
Didn't make myself clear. If the illegal pitch is a no pitch and called a ball and by rule if you have a runner on base they advance. If you had a runner on third, the winning run, by rule she comes in, game over. Is that correct? But in a HR scenario, she hits one over the wall on a illegal pitch, no one on base, what's the rule?
