The acceptable standard should be at least .600 against top 200, every year, not just once every 8 years.

I would love for Bob Marlin to be the guy that achieves great success here. He is a stand up guy who does things the right way, and the kids he has brought to UL are great young men. Unfortunately, history tells us that he is very unlikely to do so.
You say you like Bob etc etc, yet you try to point out his faults at every single turn....

    He didn't win enough.
Then he didn't have a good enough schedule
Then he didn't have a good enough home schedule
Now he doesn't have a good enough record against top whatever.
And, next will be we've never gotten an at large.

His success here is not a whole lot better or worse than any coach we've had since probation. Paschal had two NCAA appearances in seven years. Fletcher had two in eleven years. Evans had two in seven years, Lee had one in six.

With exception of Paschal, the others brought in undesirables.

I simply am not buying you'd love to see him succeed. You hammer him every chance you get.

You haven't realized he IS succeeding. After all, we are 25-4. And, I don't give a ____ if you're playing against air. That's a great season. Not good. Great.

Next season will be interesting. Great senior leadership this season will be missed next year. Can the program have two strong seasons in a row? If so, that will be an indication this program is back for the long term.

I agree with this, Mike. I am really concerned about losing Washington, and also Stove and Bartley, though to a somewhat lesser degree.

Okay, I will ask him again. Maybe I misunderstood him.

With that comes risks of what happened at UALR where you are first to worst. That doesn't mean I'm advocating for us to not make a run....LOL
You do the necessary background work on the next hire, as Dr. Maggard has done on his first two hires, they're is very little chance the right guy won't do well in this conference. Again, if any coach leaves for a higher profile program, it's a win for her or him and for our athletic program. There is always risk in hiring coaches.

    I'm in agreement on Maggard.

Look, I like our coaches. But we can survive any of them going elsewhere if the right hire is made.

Agree! I don't understand why people want coaches to stay until retirement. I've been friends with a number of coaches and if they get a chance to earn more money for their families and coach at a higher level, I would be happy for them. Very few coaches will stay like Coach Robichaux has for an entire career. Furthermore, it's good for our program's brand. JMO

It is good to be having this discussion. Better than having to worry about where will money come from to pay a buyout. Means we had a great season. As far as Coach Marlin is concerned, he may stay here for a few more years. That is not because he would not welcome an opportunity in a higher profile league. He may stay simply because other programs are now looking for someone younger than he. See LSU and Will Wade for example.

Coaches know that window of opportunity stays open only so long Mike, especially after great seasons. Coach Marlin knows he isn't getting any younger and if the right opportunity avails itself, he will at least give it some consideration.

Back to the topic of the thread for a second. When is signing day for hoops? Has Dion's kid said when he planned on making a decision?

They recently offered Jaylin Banks PF, so he should make his decision soon. Clearly Banks is the backup plan for Brown.
