Social media has simply elevated the coverage of college football recruiting for athletes and fans alike. Instead of waiting for an athlete's commitment to come out in a local newspaper article, now the athlete can now use social media as a means to announce their decisions. College football coaches, fans, parents, other athletes and high school coaches are following these athletes on Social Media. Take a look at what the UL staff was tweeting out today, it's all part of selling your program and allowing other recruits, parents and fans to see what is happening in your program.

Social Media my help mold an athletes behavior, good or bad. But 7-on-7 Football All-Star Teams has become far worse of a negative influence in molding these athletes behavior.
Every year I become more and more convinced that way too much attention is paid on where 17 year old kids plan on going to college. I also pay less attention to it than in the past other than when it involves us and on signing day. Maybe the special season basketball is having is a reason for that. I have heard coaches say a tough part of their job is to "de-recruit" kids once they get on campus. Too many of these kids are not living in reality with most believing they will be a pro. Therefore many have a view of themselves that is overly inflated. Of course it is good to have dreams but an alternate plan is something too many lack. Of course recruiting is important but recruiting rankings are not. Someone who knows more about this than most of us is BasinBear and he agrees with that perspective.

College Basketball is not oblivious to the same problems. I don't think Social Media has damaged the sport as much as AAU Basketball and All-Star Travel Teams.

I absolutely agree with you and have commented on it several times. The fans, boosters, family members and money created this monster and wonder why athletes act like they are above the rules and many are head cases..well that’s how they are treated starting at 14 and 15 years old.

haven't really heard of many big signees. Am I wrong to think we aren't having a good recruiting class?

Signees don't take place till 2\7...what we have is commitments from quite a few 3 and a 4 star or two thrown in for good measure...pay attention, we're having a solid recruiting period...

I wouldn't say that; it looks pretty solid, especially since they've been on the recruiting trail less than a month. We've just lost a couple guys that committed to Napier early (like Malcolm McGee) so that takes a little sheen off it. I'd say we've got a solid class shaping up in year 1 with hopes that next year and beyond start to become amazing classes.

It is probably worse in basketball since one guy can make such an impact.
