As I said I will not comment on any single recruit and wait to see where we end up. By my count we need 6-7 players to step in immediately to salvage a winning season next year.
My narrative is that we suck at recruiting. A point that I think most of you would agree with. I do believe Napier is the guy to turn it around but it is not going to be easy, especially with Louisiana kids currently looking at us as option #4 in the state.

Mike you are correct about the facilities. Since my son is a senior I know a few area kids and parents who are considering UL. All are blown away with the APC and how nice the campus dorms are. Unfortunately, it has not been enough to sway the players we really want. Hopefully Napier can find the missing piece to land these kids.

I don't think the perspective of the zealots has changed. For most recruits, UL has "beat out" the likes of McNeese, Nichols and Southern for "diamonds in the rough" going back to Jerry Baldwin. I am sure a couple of these recruits will be late bloomers, but most are no more than glorified FCS players who will never sniff a NFL training camp. For UL to compete with P5 schools on a regular basis, they need to consistently "beat out" G5 schools for recruits who also had offers from lower level P5 schools

Mostly, I agree with this, but I don't think we are ever competing with Southern for recruits. The other schools, yes. Southern is in a different class than those other two FCS schools. They are WAY at the bottom of all the FCS, in the SWAC. They are more likley fighting with D-II schools for recruits.

I don't expect a conference championship in 2018. But what I do expect is to see us field a team that from Day One appears to be ready to play, disciplined, well-coached, and a staff that does not need half the season to start figuring things out.

I wonder why he didn't get any other FBS offers? Tech and Monroe didn't offer and he's in their back yard, NW St offered as the only FCS, and the rest of his offers were lower level than FCS? Love to know the deal with that.

I can tell all of you that the Cajuns are getting a great athlete and an even better person. He has overcome a tremendous amount of adversity in his life and is one of the best kids you will ever meet.

As many of you probably know, Neville is somewhat of a football factory with multiple D-1 and D-2 players rolling through every year, so this season was his first as a full-time starter. Max had a very successful year. He has the natural gift of size (currently 6'6", 270 lbs.), with the frame to add at least another 30 pounds of muscle. He played at a high level in every single Neville game this year without drawing a single penalty. His specialty is run blocking, and while his natural position is right tackle, he did play a chunk of the year at right guard, filling in for a suspended starter at that position.

I think a redshirt year will do Max a world of good in terms of putting size on him and getting him established in a college system. With his size and intensity, it's no wonder that the staff took a chance on him. I am confident that he'll turn into a fantastic player (no doubt a starter) and a terrific representative of the football program. Yes I'm biased, but I can't say enough about him as a person. My sister (Max's mom) died in a car accident when he was 3, and he's had an uphill battle ever since. You will not find a more loyal and genuine person, so while his recruiting ranking may not leave you star-struck, rest assured that your coaches have landed a diamond in the rough.

In terms of his offer list, he's been in constant contact with bigger schools that do not show up on his list (including LSU, who offered him a walk-on spot as a blocking tight end). The SMU coaches have also been on him for a while, although when Morris left for Fayetteville, the new staff has had to hurry and try to catch up. But as anyone who has gone through the recruiting process with a family member can tell you, it's pretty difficult to get tons of exposure for a kid that has only 1 full year of starting under his belt. UL is getting a good one here guys.
