Can you give me some examples of kids being 50lbs overweight when they were recruited? Look, this is not a knock on the guy. Both of our OT’s were projects who put on significant weight to become viable D1 OT’s. Most of our LBs and DE fall in the same boat. This is not a new strategy for UL. I just hope it works better under this regime.
Cole Prudhomme came in at about 265 lbs
BasinBear has provided valuable insight into how we can be successful. That is to find players that have ability to significantly improve with proper coaching. Find the 2 star that plays like 3 and 4 star guys after they develop. Key is to recognize that potential and the willingness of the player to work hard. Think of someone like Bryce Washington. He was a decently rated recruit when we took him but not thought to be one of the top players in the state by any means. No experts predicted he would be one of the nation's leaders in double doubles as both a junior and senior. Basketball was able to project when they took him and then he was developed. We need to do the same in football. I could care less if we took all two star players as long as they project to be contributors in their 2nd or third year. Don't worry about where we rank when recruiting is over. Recruiting is very important but recruiting rankings at our level are meaningless.
