Each prospect has 5 official visits.....you have a 1 in 5 shot....we backed down to no one....neither will this staff...
I'm finally beginning to understand you Boomer.
At what point is it counter productive to dedicate (limited) recruiting resources to athletes like this, that we can agree are a VERY long shot of signing? Seems there should be an analytic (borrowing this from other thread) approach to use available resources on medium-high quality recruits with medium-high probability of signing.
Just a question to the experts.
Absolutely there is the law of diminishing returns involved here. BUT, that is why it was so important to significantly add to recruiting support staff. It looks like we are increasing that by about 5x, but not 100% sure on the numbers here.
That would allow up to triple our effots 2 & 3 star players and double of efforts on 4 & 5 star players. UofH is a good example. Herman didn't back down from anyone for local Houston players, and he was able to get 5* Ed Oliver. He was the first 5* recruit in UofH history.
I'll give you a first hand example. A kid I coached in peewee football is now a 3* DB here in Missouri City. I see him at least every other week. He knows I am a big Cajun alum/fan. He let me know when the staff first contacted him in Spring 2017. They kept in touch with him until the end of May. Then went radio silent all through Summer and Fall until late October, when Hud called him directly . In the mean time, he received correspondence, texts, Snapchats, etc, (during the permissable times) consistently from UofH, Colorado State, UTSA & USM for the last 9-12 months. He hasn't committed anywhere yet, but obviously those schools have made a more favorable impression.
The force multiplication you get from these recruiting assistants is HUGE. Now you take great recruiters and give them assistants that they can educate on how they like to recruit players and turn them loose to do more of the grunt work.
This is why I am so excited about the budget, the vision of Maggard, the organization of Napier, etc. The athletic department is now being funded and run like true D1 program.
You will know early whether or not a prospect is interested....and the list gets whittled down quick....if one of these 4 or 5 stars or as they were called in my day, blue chippers, decides to visit officially then he is showing interest in your program.....you wear his ___ out until he says no....or yes...😆....this staff is going after the 4 and 5 star prospects but the bulk of what this staff will recruit will be a high 2 star rated to high 3 star rated prospect......develop the 2 and 3 star prospect into the 3 and 4 star player. What I'm excited about is the coaches hired onto this staff have great reps as recruiters AND teachers.....by the way....there are more 3 star prospects in the NFL then any other rating...
It also gets your name out there for everyone to see. They are getting a visit from this kid? Makes people stand up and listen. Makes people nervous. Makes people scared. I like it.
I would think the biggest boost in hosting 4&5 star recruits would be in the eyes of 2 & 3 stars...if they see these other cats that are receiving offers from SEC schools touring campus with them...they feel important too while seeing Vermilion and White all around them
