High level women's high school golfers typically commit no later than sophomore year of high school or risk losing options. Top level college level softball committing high school freshmen has been ongoing for years. There has also been a "coaches agreement" not to poach other coaches commitments. The NFCA and have been looking to change the early commitment rules and may actually be voted on in 2018 but that doesn't mean the NCAA has to adopt them. Attached below are some links of interest.

The only thing insane about 8th grade commitment is to believe either party is honoring them. As for coaches honoring other teams committed players? Gee they don’t honor current commitments. You’re committed when you signed and faxed.
They were Fr when they both were 1st team All state in the 2017 season
I added years wrong......my bad
The reason the NFCA is proposing the change in rules is exactly because the top teams honor commitments. When you see a verbal commitment from a player like this, it's because they were offered a scholarship by the school. No, they can't sign the papers right then as it's not allowed. Yes, the amount they were offered may change prior to them signing their papers. Yes, other top coaches tend to honor those commitments and not poach. Read the articles I linked.

"Louisiana is one of the top softball programs in the country,” said Camp. Now it’s one of the top softball programs in the country with a head start on their 2021 recruiting class in a big way with the commitment from the Williams sisters.(took out the Lafayette, damn that bothers me)
