I would personally prefer to have somebody interested in building a lasting program as a DC, rather than someone running to ride the Great Saban's coattails the moment they scored a job promotion.

If this is been in the grapeline for more than a few days, do we think that might be the reason for the delays in rounding out the staff?

Sure, I see that angle. But, if he believed in what Coach N is planning (got think he did to take the job), success with that plan would possibly lead him to a DC position on a P5 program with Coach N and / or be a top candidate to replace him as HC here. He possibly gets the same DC opportunities after a few years at AL, but little to no chance to jump to a HC job at a FBS school.
