Even UTA took a good hit losing to a decent Costal team. Losing any of our first three conference games are RPI death.
Yeah, was just surprised that losing one single game could drop someone 150+ points overnight. I just don’t recall seeing any team move 150 points like that mid-season.

the 150 points dont equate to spots. so all things equal a lost and 150 pt drop would put us around 120 rpi. about 25 spot drop. there has been much larger drops in conference play with a bad loss.

Let's just win the game and we don't need to worry about a drop in RPI. Honestly, I think some people around here just enjoy worring about things.

    Bingo!

RPI is only an issue for the team that wins the SBC automatic bid.

Exactly, its Bullhockey. The one visit to the NCAA, even if it could be validated that it brings in more money than multiple NIT bids, does less to BUILD your program over a longer stretch. This elevates recruiting, money coming into your program consistently and an overall culture of winning.

I don't see us having a chance otherwise. Sure, I would like to see the day when we could get an at-large bid. However, I don't see that happening this year or in the near future. I want us to win every game we play. I want to see better competition (ooc). But, until that happens and the conference does likewise, we will continue to have only 1 team from the conference invited to compete for a national championship.
You mentioned that you'd take a trip to the big dance any day over multiple NIT's, as if you had to choose one or the other. We all understand the position our program is in as it relates to conference and schedule strength and that we are a one bid league. The main question that needs to be answered by the higher ups is what is our overall focus? As coach has stated in the past, his focus has at times been those three games in March to get us hopefully to the big dance. You seemed to echo that position. My claim is that we need to start by focusing on winning conference championships that will hopefully lead to tournament wins and NCAA bids.

Being the conference champion and falling short in the tourney still
Puts a trophy in your case, gives you at least an outside shot of possibly getting an at large on certain years and a consolation prize of a tourney you don’t have to pay to be in. It doesn’t have to be one or the other. There are zero cons to being a comference champion. The cons of the other way are what we ya e had with bob Marlin with the exception of 1 year. If our coach thinks it’s onky about 3 games in March, we’ll ge isn’t good at that either. Bottom line Is bob marlin has not had very many accomplishments on the court since he has been here. That is not debatable. Build a championship program and more often than not you will find yourself dancing in March.
    Exactly. Thank You.

How did those consecutive regular season titles and NIT appearances help LA Tech a few years ago?
