Thread: Meanwhile, Cajuns have the best basketball team in LA

  1. UL Basketball Re: Meanwhile, Cajuns have the best basketball team in LA

Mike y'all could argue that we, UNO, LTU, WKU, USA actually had teams that were deserving of an at large bid. To me, we've yet to have a Bob Marlin team that I'd argue deserved an at large including the 2014 team.

Example Marty and Floyd had multiple wins over P5 and other high quality basketbal teams. Where's Bob's scalpes?

    Got info from Wikipedia.

I’d like to recommend if people are unhappy with Marlin, stay home. It worked for Hud.

Or just walk away. I did when Fletcher scheduled and loss to a SWAC team at home. Had not missed but 2 home games since we came off suspension. Went to occasional game, didn’t have the desire. A few years ago my wife recommended getting season tickets. So, I’m back, just not ____ed off at the whole process as I was then.

He's about 6'8 and was in a walking boot on the bench all weekend. He's a Georgetown signee.

They have a couple other 6'4-6'6 guys and the PG is a short, stocky kid that is going to Idaho to play RB on the football team. If the big kid gets healthy (word is that he'll be back this year), they are a team that could compete with anyone. Very impressive.

I'd take the 2014 team over this one in a three game series. Anything can happen in a one game match, thus March Madness.
I would put Hervey and Neal from UTA right up there with Payton and Long from 2014. Hervey will play in the NBA, Neal probably won't get a shot because of his size but he has that level of skill set. A big plus for them is they are both playing together as seniors.

Keep everyone straight Mike. And thank you in advance.

UNO got an at large once back in the 90's and so did WKU. None of Marty's teams would have gotten close to an at large bid without winning the tournament. He did have wins over Cincinatti, Kentucky, Oklahoma twice, and Ole Miss twice. None of that mattered because at the end he could not beat UNO and had losing seasons two of his last three years. He also got beat by teams that should not have done so several times. He got beat by Nicholls twice for example. If that happens here, we have a new coach. In fact I bet if one losing season occurs we likely make a change. I agree that it is disappointing we don't have a signature road win over a P5 in Coach Marlin's tenure. In fact the only one I remember in the last 20 years is the Jessie Evans team that beat Miss. State when Brad Boyd went off. Of course the very next game we lost to McNeese. Shows how the fortunes of a basketball team can quickly change.

Coach Marlin stated a goal was to win the regular season championship back at one of the press conferences in November. He said it publicly. It is not just something he said to supporters. Now there is no way they do so if they even remotely play like Friday for a few games, regardless of opponent.

A lot of good points on both sides of the debate.

    Makes the discussion interesting.

A better goal is to win the conference tournament. At least that way you are assured of playing one more game!

How dare you use facts!!! Funny the ugly losses are forgotten. As will be the Clemson loss if the guys come back strong.

I remember Texas Tech came here and pounded us, don’t remember the coach.

    JK, enjoying your posts.

That was in November of 2000. Followed the tournament appearance in March of that year.
