Playing mostly top-10 and top-25 teams out of conference is unfeasible. Yet it would be needed to end up with a top-50 RPI.

Once SBC play begins the 9 sub-250 will lock the conference down and bring ever decent team down with it.

30 RPI would become 70. 50 RPI would become 90. Anything lower going in would be dragged kicking and screaming out of the top 100.

    Independent.
Got look at Little Rocks ooc schedule two years ago. No where near as tough as what you think it would take. They played only 3 top 100 teams, none higher than 30. Their non conference RPI was 31. Season end ing RPI was 42.

UTA last year played 4 top 100 teams and lost to 3 of them. Their non conference RPI was 18. They ended up at 40.

Dump the non D1 games. That would be a start. Don’t ever risk “fumbling” the bed like Broadhead’s team did the day before Thanksgiving.

Someone (looking at you VO) needs to take Maggard by the hand and put the bug in his ear. I know it's been said Marlin makes the schedule, but if Maggard called him into his office and said, "we're going to talk about scheduling", he'd listen.

The non D1 games don't hurt us in terms of RPI. Voluntarily playing the dregs of Division one kills us.

FBS schools are allowed to schedule more than 1 FCS school per year. You know why they don't do it very often? It's because that only 1 FCS game per year can count for Bowl eligibility.

So, my question is why do DI basketball schools schedule DII schools when none of those wins will count to your Tournament at-large consideration or your seeding consideration, only losses will count?

And before we hear the argument about we have no chance for an at-large, this is not about that. Playing DII schools does nothing to get us better. The only thing that does that is competition.

At a minimum, there should be no DII schools on the schedule.

If we lose they do, and playing them does nothing to help us get better.

They are just there to pad a coaches win total. That is all.

If the AD does not have a hand in basketball scheduling, I have to ask "Why the hell not?"

I’m not happy the days I grew up in, college and a few years after are gone. We had the Bayou Classic. GOOD teams came here. This all changed in the 90’s, our home OOC was the freaking SWAC under Fletcher. I gave up my tickets. Some lapped his c**p like mother’s milk. In retrospect, was the beginning of the end of what we now both seek.

Came back a few years ago, but it’s all different. ESPN and the birth of the Big East killed the game I long for. I know mathematically the deck is stacked against ALL the non P5s. I want to compete and go to the NCAA any way possible. Every year.

I don’t care for these pay for play joke tournaments. But every time someone posts ____ about a mid major poll or possible mid major national championships, it’s accepting “we’re not good enough”.

Our views may seem far apart, but they are not
Little Rock was a 12 two years ago. Just saying.

I agree that we should not play them. But if I could only change 1 game, I wouldn't play McNeese. Playing them hurts us win or lose.

Historically the AD doesn’t do the MBB schedule. Y’all can bet your bottom dollar he sets the tone, budget, and expectations.

Unfortunately some of you guys keep thinking THIS year, last year, us. Think conference, strategic five years goals.

We don’t need a wholesale change in scheduling. UL needs to change two or three games a year. The SBC each needs to follow suit. Doing this would make a big difference in our champs chances.

Sure I love beating teams by 37. It’s just not going to help us 3 games in March, and hopefully 3 games into the Big Dance.

Again for a few knuckleheads I don’t dislike Bob Marlin. I don’t hope he fails, just the opposite I hope he incredibly successful. He’s been here most a decade. He seems to have had a large sample of mediocrity. I do want better, and right now his mediocre career is tolarated. Let’s see if 2017/18 results in better? Until it does I’m not sold on the guy. Weak scheduling, never finishing in top two regular season, one top three, isn’t a resume I’d hire, why’d I want to keep renewing that.

And 2 years later, a dumpster fire, dragging the conference down.

Sustainable success is what we both desire.

While everyone bashes the schedule and everyone has the cure all, none of us are taking budgets into consideration.

What is the difference between a road game at UNO and a road game at NMSU? About 30K. Since we're dropping UNO, and McNeese and Nicholls, let's multiply it by at least two.

UNO, Nicholls and McNeese are a bus trip and chik fil a after the game. Don't think for a second this doesn't enter into it..
