If we are the basketball team in Louisiana just shows how bad basketball in Louisiana is.
LSU is likely the best team in the state as they just got one of their better players back after missing a few games to injury. Tulane is much improved but they struggled against Nicholls more than we did. We probably are the 2nd best team despite yesterday's embarrassment.
Until LSU A & M is willing to risk playing us or any Louisiana teams on the road they’re officially not a candidate.
Whether one individual believes a 26 and 8 record deserves anything is not significant. The university will definitely accept a CIT bid in such a scenario unless injuries are a factor. The great majority of fans would support that decision as the team would have had a strong conference campaign. After yesterday, many do not think that is possible this morning and that is understandable. It is not possible if you have multiple games in which you miss 13 straight shots. I have to think that is somewhat of an anomaly however.
Where did I say we shouldn't accept a bid because we don’t deserve it. I have said in the past that we’re not good enough to b,;:tch about not getting an at large bid.
I’d take any offer including pay to play tournaments. Playing in any tournament for so called mid majors isn't a sign you're a pretty good team. The NIT however goes to the regular season champs. So that's a case for the NIT bid being a better indicator of how good you are. The others are how much you'd pay, or maybe how lucky you are with regards to the big dance. And yes before some knuckle head says he'd rather be lucky than good. Yes a lucky strike to the NCAA is still better than being good. Just realize what you are, lucky.
NIT would mean we were regular season champs. After yesterday we would all take that. That won't happen unless the coaches and players can "flush" yesterday and re-focus quickly. They were able to right the ship last year after a slump but it came so late in the campaign many fans had stopped caring or paying attention. Cannot afford to have that happen in order to meet the goal of being the regular season champion. In order to win the league we have to get off to a strong start.
I think the regular season champ has more than 2 losses. I still think UTA is the class of the conference and they have to play both of the Georgia schools twice, Coastal Carolina twice, and the Cajuns twice. It's the Alabama and Arkansas schools they only play once which makes theirs one of the toughest schedules.
UTA is also the team in the conference best prepared to play a tough schedule. I do not think they will lose to anyone in the conference other than road games against the Georgia schools and UL, and I expect they will go no worse than 1-2 in those 3 games.
Warren Nolan is now projecting UTA, UL and GaSo to all be 15-3 and tied for first. I believe that UTA and both Georgia schools finish ahead of the Cajuns, even though the schedule favors UL over UTA. GaSo actually has the most favorable schedule, as they play us only at their place. Coastal will not be a factor.
