So is it that way in all sports T? An athlete gets released and they free to play nest year on next team ? I thought everyone had to sit a year.

Softball is the only sport like that .. Football /baseball & basketball all have to sit out a year regardless of the realse unless a hardship is granted

With a release I believe all sports except men's basketball and football can play when the athlete becomes a student at a new university. There are some exceptions as some conferences enforce additional restrictions if athletes competed against a school they want to transfer to.This it's really restrictive in sports like golf where tournaments often have 12-18 teams so you may compete against half the NCAA teams. This also can be waived though. Also transfers in football from FBS to FCS can play when becoming a student.Basically it used to be revenue vs non revenue sports. If baseball hasn't been effected yet I expect it to in the future as crowds and revenue grows.

Well that sucks. If a coach/university should grant a release then they should be eligible right away. In all sports.. Kinda cruel when the coach can haul AZZ but his/her players are indentured servants .
