Isn’t he getting 10 mill from a&m? That can go a long way living in Lafayette especially if he’s around 1.5 mill a year salary wise. I’m sure he would have no problem maintaining his lifestyle...unless he has to pay for his beers in the Cajundome

We are a D1 job, with excellent facilities, tremendous upside, and close to his home. I'm not saying we are a shoe in.. But you people that think it "can't happen here" need to get those demons exorcised. It will happen here. May not be Sumlin, but our big hire is coming..

Until then, Sumlin or bust baby!
If all things were equal in all those comparisons...you'd have a point...but Kiffin was a complete failure with all his previous HC stints and needed opportunity to change perception...Malzahn was never a HC before University of Ark State...Butch Davis has closet full of infractions...Pelini, you may have comparison...but Sumlin is not apples-to-apples comparison to all the others...squeaky clean and proven winner

I really have no idea who Dr. Maggard has on his short list.

Yes. I 100% believe that we will not "go cheap" on this. This is a massively critical hire that has to be exactly right. We no longer have 4 or 5 years to spare.

Great facilities — except for the eyesore that’s our stadium.

Btw, Oregon has contacted Lane Kiffin about its vacancy..
My take on your Sumlin statements is that you are not predicting he'll come here... you're guaranteeing it. I'm on a Lafayette Sumlin watch.

Seems since we could have saved 500k on the buyout by just waiting 30 days, we are probably not planning on taking too long to make this hire.

Also think about how good Sumlin will be for the Lafayette economy. 😊 Obviously he'd be a big name splash, a great get for the program.

We would have BUT timing was crucial for other reasons. Basically, I think Maggard knew that he had to send a message that this was going to be done in a prudent fashion. No sense in hanging Hud and staff out to dry. Recruiting is also a factor and possibly the biggest. Other schools are hiring up guys right now and you don't want to miss chances on candidates that might be interested plus recruiting would take a big hit. Signing day is in February and you want staff in here ASAP hitting the trail and evaluating current commits and players. While it would have saved us money I think the timing was important and needed to be done ASAP.

Yes, this is why I said "we are probably not planning on taking too long to make this hire".

Though I agree 100% with Maggard's approach, it's not doing anything for my new coach thread OCD.
