We aren’t even average and that took us a 100 years...took them 4 seasons to get 2 double digit win seasons...they are way above average and will be out of this conference before we even get a call. They are taken seriously in the football world and we are a joke. I️ wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss them. If this realignment happens in 2020 I️ promise you their ticket is already punched.
But you have to admire what App State has done in their first 4 years in FBS. You don't know if they're done yet. They may become the next Boise State. I think those admiring what App State has done are correct. Being "like them" isn't our ultimate goal. But it wouldn't be a bad start to catch up to them.
I agree with you on everything in this post but I can assure you App States ticket isn't punched. As a matter of fact, no one's ticket on the G5 level is punched. They are though putting themselves in the best position that they can. There is a possibility that there will actually be a contraction in the number of Football members in the p5. There are several Head Coaches and AD's of prominent programs quietly behind the scenes pushing this. Let me add that neither I nor anyone in or around this business knows what exactly is going to happen in 4 to 6 years. We better damned well get our house in order or there is no shot for us.
This!
I have been reading all of the threads on possible HUD replacements, and one theme that jumps out at me is do we want a “manager” or a “coach”? When I think “manager”, I think of someone like Les Miles or Nick Saban, or even Ed Orgeron. Those guys manage the team, keep everything in order, but aren’t necessarily in the trenches teaching/coaching techniques, etc. My personal opinion, is that I would rather have someone who can develop talent; i.e., coach techniques, etc. I would much rather see a hard nosed, fundamentally sound team than a team full of “great athletes” that can’t tackle, or don’t know how to cover a wide receiver, etc. I believe this state has a ton of kids who can be developed into a cohesive and talented “football TEAM” year in and year out. Who that “coach” is, I have no idea, but that is what I would like to see at UL.
