What I’m saying is there’s no matrix that’s absolute. Hud had zero UL background, and look what he’s done. The good and the bad.

I like Tim Rebowe as well. He's in his element at Nicholls. If we keep floundering around, and not recruiting well above him in Louisiana, he'd make us pay in a head to head game. But the trajectory we need to set, requires a higher profile hire. I think most people are getting the sense that it's either a nationally recognized FCS offensive brainiac... or a P5 offensive coordinator guru. There could be an exception... due to a timing thing... where a "fallen P5" head coach may be considered... to come and make a name here... with the target of getting back in the P5.
I see what Express is saying. You keep reiterating that we need this "culture change". Implying that if someone has any ties whatsoever to UL's past... they're out... and only those that have no ties here... have the ability to create an "improved culture". Express is correct in reminding you that Hud had no ties to UL when he got here. And he brought in a culture called "Saunders" from Mississippi... that crapped all over our program.
I don't think we can select anyone whatsoever outside of Hud and have the same culture. There are a lot of coaches that put up with being part of a staff under complete _______s. That does not make them part of the prior culture. So... as much as I doubt we even have a person that has UL ties in our top 5... if they were qualified... I'd dismiss this "culture" argument.
I'm not saying UL doesn't need a cultural change from Hud. But what exactly does eliminating people that have had ties to UL have to do with our football culture? Baldwin had no ties to UL. Was that an automatic plus on his resume?
Well due to time constraints, I would not surprise me if Maggard does have a top 5 list all ready and has contacted agents to move forward quickly for recruiting purposes etc,
Fair enough. You'll very likely get your wish. There aren't enough qualified candidates with ties to our program. But to assume that some guy with ties to Baylor, Auburn, USC, LSU, Penn State, Ole Miss or Grambling... with no ties to UL... cannot bring a culture of doom... is lost on me.
Dr. Maggard isn't going to make a UL homer selection. And that selection... IMO... can choose his staff from wherever he wants.
To your point, the Georgia Southern (former interim, now head) coach fired assistants today. Dude's going to create his own culture.
I think our bar's higher than Rebowe. I think a lot of casual "fans" are going to crap their pants when they see how serious Maggard is about dominating the Sun Belt and competing nationally. I think the softball hire proves that. I think Maggard's about to turn some heads and show the casual onlooker that this isn't your mom and pop's USL operation.
He wants to win the press conference. Listen to him talk. He wants to dominate the Sun Belt conference in every sport. You ever hear anyone talk like that around here besides us loons on Ragin' Pagin? That's Robe-level talk. Let's geaux fill our trophy case, boys and girls. That's his language, and his actions so far back that up.
I expect a splash.
And I think Maggard already knows who his guy is. I suspect he's been talking to him for a couple weeks.
Listen to Maggard in the press conference. "I have left Hud know that I have relieved him..." "I will hire..." "All rumors are false until you hear that I have hired someone."
I.
Dude aint messing around.
EDIT: He also talks like a guy who doesn't have to beg a president, a board, or anyone else for permission to do squat.
We are in the middle of a National search. A culture Change must be instituted from the President all the way to the common fan. The fact that as of yesterday we are paying a head coach and staff 2 million dollars to sit on their butts and do nothing tells me a real change is taking place....Now, Do not sell Rebowe short. He won big this season and had a good season last year. And think about two games over the last two seasons. Georgia in 2016 and Texas A&M this season. He took both teams down to the wire and had a great shot at beating both.....as head coach at NICHOLLS ST......NICHOLLS FREAKING STATE! What he has done there is basically a miracle...I am not supporting him nor any other specific Coach....I leave it completely in Dr. Maggard's hands....
