Well with all due respect, Hud has said that he will "open" up the offense the last 3 years and that hasn't happened. As a matter of fact, we've gone even more conservative. Point is coaches can say what they want but doesn't always mean its true.

Well, I was just thinking that today could possibly be the last game day of the Hud regime. LET HOPE RETURN!!!!

After all of the excitement and success in the first few years of Hud, I just can't believe that it's fallen to this level. What the heck changed?

I think if he just starts losing, you have a much different sentiment around here. What Mark Hudspeth failed to understand, and still fails to understand, is that you don't insult Cajun people. I mean, no one should insult their donors and fanbase, but ESPECIALLY HERE, especially concerning politics. This is a religious, conservative area. People have strong convictions. I believe that is the basis of the vitriol.

When Cajuns are with you, it's ride or die.
When you insult them, you're dead to them.
Anyone married to a Cajun woman? I rest my case.

arrogance, one shared conference championship, never sniffed top 20, recruiting bottoming out, long long list. Most importantly, he totally lost the fan base.

As I said, too conservative on offensive play calling.

Fine with that formula, it will win you more games than you lose. They have dominated this conference since day 1. You want to move up? You want to beat good teams? Start by dominating this conference and getting out of it. You will never consistently beat good teams from the sunbelt...ever. App state isn’t playing to beat the occasional P5...they are playing to move up towards them.
Ok....Yes, he is a good coach. But, that's not what I was saying when I was referring to the type of coach I think would fit best and succeed the most at UL. I want a coach that will have an aggressive style on offense and with the ability to pass the ball downfield. Yes, a good defense is always welcome and is required. I may not be saying it clearly enough, but the way to squeeze out the most success from our program level, is to have a high octane offense that can throw. That is the way to beat better talented teams. It's been proven, time and time again. I'm not concentrating on Sun Belt teams, because those should be winnable if your team is capable of beating the best G5 and the lower P5 teams. At our level, we could look like we have an excellent defensive team, with a nice looking, productive running game, and then when you go against a real football team, like a top G5 or any P5, they will crush you (haven't we seen that enough). If you have an explosive passing game, you can compete with better teams. Look at UH (Briles, then Sumlin, then Herman), Look at Boise.....Look even at those bums La Tech when they have a good passing game. It really works, and it could work here.

There is no rule that if your head coach comes from defense that you can’t have a dynamic offense and vice versa. App states head coach is from the offense side of the ball and they play great defense. If you have a head coach that is great at defense and hires a great OC and stays out of his way them what’s the problem? Look what kiffin was able to do with Alabamas offense and what they were doing to people. Did anyone ever think Saban would let somebody open up the offense? A good coach is a good coach, regardless of where his “expertise” is coming from is my point. Personally don’t think you can say we can’t have a dynamic offense if we hire a head coach that comes from defense.

No rule, correct. We don't have Alabama talent, we don't even have Boise talent, that plays a role in what type of system you run. I may not convince you or others, but I have seen plenty of football to know, defensive coaches tend to be more conservative on offensive play calling. It's in their blood.

The micro managers yes, and that’s why you don’t let the defensive head coach call the offensive plays. That’s what I️ mean by him letting the OC do his job. Eliminating an entire list of candidates because of which side of the ball they coach is ignorant and simple minded...very USL type thing to do IMO. Hire the right guy who knows how to win. There is a lot that goes in to it. Would you have a problem if we hired a defensive coach who turned around and hire Briles as OC?

I want to emphasize the point that I'm talking about what would work here at UL. I'm not against defensive coaches at all, if you have the talent. I do believe that when you can have SEC type talent, you should run the ball and play good defense because, percentage wise, you can win most games that way. For us, it's totally different. It has to be a higher risk scheme to beat better talented teams. I want our team to not only beat teams in the lower half of FBS, but compete against the upper half also. I just don't think the "run the ball, play good defense" scheme will do that at UL. We could never have a good enough defense to stop Oklahoma State as an example, to run the ball. But, if we could score by passing, they will have to abandon running the ball, thus giving us a chance. Jmo.

Boise state runs the ___ out of the ball, Baylor ran the ___ out of the ball. Latech ran the ___ out of the Hall. I’m not talking about 3 yards and a cloud of dust. We were scoring 35 points a game when hud got here and we ran the ___ out the ball. A dynamic offense is not one dimensional one way or the other...that’s why it’s dynamic.
