Thread: Who would fit and what style as UL head football coach?

  1. Default Re: Who would fit and what style as UL head football coach?

I know I'm on an island on this one, but Kevin Sumlin is unemployed. We need to be ringing his phone every second of every minute of every day. I do not care if y'all think it is impossible. Lane Kiffin is about to win CUSA in year one at FAU. F A freaking U. We need to stop limiting ourselves.

I don't care if Sumlin says no a million times. Keep calling. Use contacts. Do whatever it takes. I don't care that we still have a HC. Make the call and keep calling.

Matt Canada is rumored to wanting to leave LSU for a head coaching job at a G5 school.

I've said as much in another thread. I think Canada would be a terrific hire.

We cannot have a running, triple option offense with the defenses UL routinely puts out. We have to have a high scoring offense to compete. Some will say recruit better defensive players, but we have only had 3 or 4 good defenses in the last 40 years.
It may be a pipe dream, but a retread like Sumlin would be exciting. He has won everywhere he has been.

I don't have a problem with Sumlin. But he really doesn't need to coach or has to make a decision anytime soon. Texas A&M is paying him $10.5 Mil to take a walk.

Well to me, he's not a retread. He's a damn good coach. He built Houston Football. He went 51-26 at A&M in the SEC West.

Manny Diaz - DC for the University of Miami

He was making $600k at Miss. St. in 2015. He can recruit the footprint of the SBC.

Worked under Mack Brown, Mark Ricth, and Dan Mullen.

    He's a P5 coaching candidate. ZERO chance.

Kevin Sumlin would be great but is that even realistic? There are question marks to afford Hud's buyout but I don't think sumlin is even in the ballpark

Sumlin is being subsidized by A&M. Much like Melvin Smith was being subsidized by Aubrun while he was here. Sumlin's career started by taking Houston from the outhouse to the penthouse. He's not an anti G5 guy. He's said as much.

Sumlin is in play. Does our admin have the STONES to be bold and make a bid for him?
