I think he's done well signing the skilled positions, especially RB and WR. Other than that, we are not very good on defense, the DL, LB and DB are just not that good. The OL has good size, but they are not very athletic and only zone block well. He simply hasn't recruited well enough and developed younger athletes.
You don't have a player, well maybe one or two, on the field that will have a chance to make an NFL roster. If you look at very good to great teams you may have 4-5 on both sides of the ball that have aspirations of playing on Sunday. Therefore all we have are players enjoying the thrill of playing the game and killing time on Saturday afternoons.
Robe uses the term "underwear models." That's what we have on this football team. We have a bunch of guys who look the part and can run a decent time on a 40 yard dash, but they can't make an open field tackle or catch a pass on a 10 yard out route. But don't we look great in those uniforms?
I agree T. We have decent skill position players, but you win (and loose) in the trenches. Look at our O-line and D-line today compared to the lines we had in his first 3 or 4 years here. There is no comparison. Thus it comes down to evaluating and recruiting talent. I'm afraid Hud just doesn't have that ability!
Hey coach,
Most of these players are playing their hearts out. What they're not doing is playing smart. That's one thousand percent on you, and no one else.
Linebackers are out of position and missing tackles, because they don't know their jobs well enough. That's on you.
Defensive backs are missing assignments and getting beat. Also on you.
Offensive linemen aren't protecting the quarterback because they're not physically or mentally prepared. Also on you.
You have never accepted blame for the pickle this team finds itself in. Instead, you blame your staff, humiliate them publicly, and you blame your players. You never have seemed to look at the man in the mirror. Another failure, on you.
A wise person once said, "A good leader accepts a bit more of the blame than they deserve, and a bit less of the credit than they deserve." You have done neither. It's time for you to leave.
That's an issue I have with Hud. He doesn't realize that you can give tough speeches to the players, in the locker room, about "you need to step up"... and so on. But you don't do that publicly. And the fact of the matter is... everything... including whether players "step up" on any given Saturday or given situation... is ON THE HEAD COACH. He recruits them, decides what to coach them, what to motivate them with, what to discipline them with... and so on. THE RESULTS OF EVERYTHING ARE ON HIM.
