I'm going to catch sh@t for this... but we do NOT need to be proactive with throwing money at Robe...as stated above, he agreed to the contract so obviously he was ok with the money...this is a business, not a charity...I get that he's the best thing for the baseball program and maybe best thing for the athletic department as a whole... but there's no need to volunteer more money to him just because... As stated, he hasn't gone anywhere when he's had the opportunity because we can offer him success and something that you can't put a price tag on: being HOME... it's time we start putting a value on that rather than throwing money away that's unsolicited.
Businesses sometimes are proactive in renegotiating (or extending) a contract and giving more money to incentivise a valued employee from seeking greener pastures at the end of their current contract, and becoming disillusioned. Not saying it should necessarily be done in Tony's case, but it would not be a "charity" move.
Just as you should never give a contract too expensive to buy out, you should never low ball a coach you want. You should pay that coach at least what it’s going to take to replace him/her. I understand that you may not really know what they’re worth until you lose them, Houston Oilers comes to mind, but you should never knowingly low ball them.
I get that...and I've been the recipient of 2 unsolicited raises in my short carreer...which I was very grateful for might i add... but truth be told, I wasn't going anywhere either way... I get that scenario does not apply to a lot of people...but I think Robe and I have a lot in common...we both love our job.
I am almost positive that Glasco’s salary has the blessing of Robe, whose loyalty to the school is well known and documented. And I would hope that the administration would be smart enough to reward that loyalty.
Yeah you are...spoken from a person who has no clue about how college athletics works. Robe's agent needs to be in contact with the athletic dept ASAP and re negotiate his contract and not wait till his existing expires. The university had no problem doing that with HUD and he and his program have embarrassed us time and time again. The university needs to show a little good faith and pay him what he's worth....period!
In 2014 baseball was ranked number number 1 in the country. First time ever and went to a super regional 2 straight years. He renegotiated his contract in 2015 and 125k plus incentives which puts him close to 200k is the best the university can do??? They low balled him plain and simple. Softball should NEVER make more than baseball...ever!
And just because Tony is loyal and wants to stay close to home should never be used against him when determing his salary.... pay the man what he’s worth. You honestly think giving tony a raise or a bonus is throwing money away?? Geez dude have a clue.
Except, it happens all the time. Univ. of FL Athletic Association gave Urban Meyer a $1,000,000 bonus (he was not owed) AFTER he resigned his position.
If paying a successful coach(ing legend) market value is "throwing money away", then we deserve to be called "cheap" in coaching circles.
Russo park will rake in cash hand over fist with the luxury boxes and stadium club. Nobody believes that place would be there without Robe. I'll be shocked if he is not bumped up nicely within a year.
