We all get what we deserve. If UL hired a series of Tony Averagecoaches 24 years ago and was a perennial 150-200 RPI team, a Lamar, or ULM, we would have a Lamar, or ULM ballpark. That simple.

Again...if I have the opportunity to go work for a major Oil & Gas Operator or OEM overseas and make 1.5 x my current salary along with the 1st $90,000 being tax free... but I don't want to leave my parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, birthday parties, weekend get togethers, etc...should I expect the small private company I work for in Lafayette to compensate me equally just b/c I have the opportunity to move on.... or is that a decision me and my wife have to make whether to value the extra money on the table....or having a quality of life with our extended family?
There are literally tens of thousands of qualified interchangeable oil and gas E & P professionals. Apples and oranges. You can count Robe's replacements on one hand, maybe. Robe is so far underpaid, it is simply ridiculous to assert otherwise. Quit being silly. Macroeconomics goes out the window with a supply too small to measure.

Here’s the reality. If Robe died tomorrow we’d be paying his successor way more, unless it’s Babineaux, with a hometown discount. Or we’d be expecting to complete at a much lower level. In any case probably going to happen sooner than we’d like.

He may be underpaid compared to the P5s of the world....but please forgive me if I don't feel sorry for a man making a minimum of $150k/year with a lot of perks (cars, phone, etc), an additional $30k annually contributed to interest bearing annuity account.....oh yeah, and he doesn't have to worry about 401k contributions cutting into his take home pay b/c he will receive 100% of his salary until he quits breathing...he's not shopping at Great Value...

If Robe "retired tomorrow" would be a better reality.....

This is why you are incorrect. It is not about how you, or I feel about it that matters. What matters is his market value. He deserves it whether you, or I like it, or not. The salary comp is Coach Glasco and it is now established. It simply, now looks cheap to not pay Robe his market value.

If Robe was 30 years old getting his first head coaching job, then his comp would be somewhere else.

You are correct in that there are many more O&G professionals than high end baseball coaches...but the point remains the same...if he is not willing to pack his things and move to LSU or South Carolina or Florida or wherever... he's getting what we can offer: a fair deal for him and us... as a small program on a limited income.... I think we, as in the school and the fan base, are giving him WAY MORE than he would receive at majority of programs across the country... and I don't imply that to mean just salary (fan support, etc.)...

Or if he took over a P5 program in 2019 after not getting a raise.

How do you know he's unwilling to move? Think he has no pride, no ego? See what happens if the unthinkable occurs and his salary is unchanged in a year. Then we will find out his market value here AND elsewhere.

well we can cross that bridge when we get to it....all I can go off of is facts...the facts from his 20+ year tenure here can only be 1 of the following.....he's been a)unwilling to move and therefore willing to accept the discounted salary he's been receiving.. or b) he's been open and willing to move/chase the money, which if that's the case, why hasn't he left?...
