Yes, in life there are exceptions but certainly not the norm.

Entering his 24 year and yet you pay our new softball coach who's been in this town all of 5 minutes and give him a higher salary?

Take some of HUD and Marlin’s salary and give to Tony. Lord knows he’s done way more than those guys put together...with way less money.

    Good insight

Yep, same situation as what we used to have. Softball program historically better than baseball.

    Perception creates value.

Oklahoma is the State where the Woman's College World Series is held.

The university needs to show a little good faith and pay him what he's worth....period!

In 2014 baseball was ranked number number 1 in the country. First time ever and went to a super regional 2 straight years. He renegotiated his contract in 2015 and 125k plus incentives which puts him close to 200k is the best the university can do??? They low balled him plain and simple. Softball should NEVER make more than baseball...ever!

And just because Tony is loyal and wants to stay close to home should never be used against him when determing his salary.... pay the man what he worth. You honestly think giving tony a raise or a bonus is throwing money away?? Geez dude have a clue.
Exactly. He went to the table to renegotiate AFTER being #1 and both parties AGREED to the contract price....again for you to understand: Robe signed on the dotted line....it was an agreement between BOTH parties.... and yes, if Robe is loyal and wants to stay home, he absolutely needs to understand that comes with leaving money on the table....I'm in O&G... if I was willing to move to Houston or Aberdeen or Norway....I'd make WAY more money, but I choose to stay in Lafayette...that's not my bosses problem to pay me what I would make if I moved...

Edit: UL did it with Hudspeth b/c he was reportedly willing to take a $1mill offer from Tulane and pack his office up...to my knowledge, Robe has (thankfully) never put UL in the position to have to get in a pizzing-match...

If paying a successful coach(ing legend) market value is "throwing money away", then we deserve to be called "cheap" in coaching circles.

Russo park will rake in cash hand over fist with the luxury boxes and stadium club. Nobody believes that place would be there without Robe. I'll be shocked if he is not bumped up nicely within a year.
I'll give you a point for the box revenue...but bringing up Urban Meyer and one of the top money making programs in all of NCAA sports is not comparing apples-to-apples.... they profit millions...we lose millions...

You seem obsessed with this. What if the man is fine with his contract? All indications are that he is, in fact, fine with it. So I guess it’s a non story, huh?

Good points. The point I was in-artfully making was extra-contractual compensation does exist. Yes, FL is a giant, but a million $ is still a million $, no matter how much you make. That goodwill did not go unnoticed in the coaching community.

I have a feeling if the new SB coach is compensated well-above the long-time baseball coach, for an extended period, multiple years, it will be viewed negatively by "college baseball". Makes us look like we can scam coaches until our backs are up against it.

I do have a question on Robe. Do you think the new stadium is built without him? I'm confident the answer would be not a chance.
