So Turbine? Is there a barrier that’s something other than a ten foot brick wall, or a ten foot limbo bar? Maybe a three foot hurdle requiring effort and reward.

As stated before we’d get better competition in a red and white game. We’d get a better reward playing and losing to a top 150 RPI team on the road. The only thing we got out of this game was time to practice at home.

Frankly I’d have preferred practice at home, and a road game in Florida against top competition maybe Thursday. That way the team would be rested when they get to the islands, have a meaningful game that Marlin could use to teach.

Note we do have a home game against a D1 opponent on Friday afternoon. That would make it tough to play on Thursday in Florida. One of the reasons they play a couple of games like last night is to avoid playing 13 home games and 18 road games. That would result in the additional travel impacting class time and academics. It also allows some of the backup guys who don't play much to get time in a real game. Still, I understand the view that these games should not have regular prices charged. Perhaps they should be half price in the season ticket package. This discussion about the non D1 teams on the schedule happens every year and all views are valid. At this point virtually all the comments have been made before and we are repeating ourselves. Keep in mind that although the basketball staff makes the schedule the new AD was here when it was finalized and he approved it. Therefore I would be shocked if the policy changes going forward. Not that it matters to our situation but several mid majors are now playing 3 non D1 games (Rice amongst them) in order to have a few non conference home games.

Zero resistance exercise can serve a purpose.

Not exactly sure what that purpose would be.

Meeting a brick wall to start a season would be more detrimental in my opinion.

I have seen the season long bad results of facing an immovable object right out of the gate in football way to many years.

I'd opt for a zero resistance opener in basketball to get the team on the same page.

No explanation needed Mike as we've gone over this for a long time and you've explained it for a long time. Some will never not ____ and moan about playing these teams although it apparently is tougher and tougher for the mid major types to get quality opponents to play them at home now. I was watching the UNC - Bucknell game last night and they were talking about how Bucknell has to travel from Arkansas, UNC and then play Maryland all in an 8 day stretch. Teams like this fight the same issues we face. It doesn't help justify the season ticket prices, I get it but its not just our program.

At this point in time the matchups you mentioned are not brick walls for them. It could be for a team trying to find itself.

The team that didn't learn a thing the other night (or knows not what to address first) is Louisiana College.

One more point on this, hAd we played on the road tonight in Florida, the guys would have missed an additional 3 days of class. They are already missing 3 days next week and their 11 AM class on Friday due to the early game. They do factor the academic situation into the scheduling process.

You’re missing the point. I’d have not scheduled either La College or Savanna State. We’d do better practicing instead of La College, and AGAIN try to get a top 150 RPI game in Florida instead. Benefits us with rest and respect. I’d definitely not feel cheated not seeing either of those games in the dome.

You would be relived of your scheduling duties if you followed through on that. What you are suggesting is done by no one.

What not schedule two worthless games and replace it with one that actually helps build a team. Lots of schools have many more road games than home games.

Regardless these two games serve zero value.
