I lean toward super stud FCS head coaches over P5 coordinators. P5 coordinators may look like hot shots on paper... but a lot their accolades are gained with a pantry full of top shelf athletes. We have to assess and recruit diamonds in the rough, and be best in class developmental staff. FCS programs know this better than anyone.
I don't want to get too carried away with Louisiana ties. If a guy has a great reputation, local HS coaches will take interest. The issue is that he can't be an egomaniac that doesn't relate to HS coaches. If the HC isn't a local... we definitely need a couple highly regarded staff that are.
John Grass and Mike Houston are excellent candidates. Houston has a $375k base through 2021. Grass has a base of $300k with a long term contract. It would cost us a little to get them out of their contracts... but either one is attainable.
Exactly! Mike Houston has won with multiple different offensive schemes as well. Which, to me, means the guy can flat out coach and knows football.
John Grass is cut from the same cloth as Bill Clark at UAB. They guy can coach and he wins. Plus he is already a household name within our recruiting footprint.
Not sure who this John Grass is but based on what I’ve read we should be able to do much better than a someone who has only coached 3 years at the FCS level
