Do I know how many will stay? No. Do I believe the majority of these ladies will stay? Yes.
I think you are right, and even under normal transitions there is often player drift.
I don't remember Hud losing any players but Marlin lost players when taking over from Robert Lee.
You could probably tell stories in both directions of players coming and going with coaching transitions.
I suspect a lot of what happens will be influenced by how good of a communicator the next coach is.
Do we know how many were supposed to sign?
If so did they sign else where or will they wait to see who will be the next coach?
Jay Walker spent the beginning of his show yesterday talking about the softball program. He explained fully, the university's position on letting the girls leave if they so choose. He also said that nothing would take place until after the end of the semester, and by then we'd have a new coach in place who should get to meet with the players before any decisions are made. His opinion was that we'd probably lose SOME players, but it wouldn't be the "mass exodus" that was being talked about the day of the firing.
He also went on to say that he purchased season tickets for softball to support the young ladies who choose to stay, and hoped that most fans would, as well, and made a big point of saying that our team should want to play for the "LOUISIANA" or "RAGIN CAJUNS" on the chest, NOT "Lotief" or whoever, and hoped that our fans will feel the same......
Let's hope that Dr. Maggard's first hire will be a good one!
In most cases I really don't care what Jay Walker has to say period. But in this case what he stated sounds reasonable. The number of athletes requesting to be released was around 7 or 8 the last I heard. In that number supposedly are both All -Americans and the program's top pitcher returning from last season. So no changes ever take place without some pain.
The silliest part of the whole thing is that no single coach or player is above this program. We have been a dominate program for 25+ years. If kids want to go and transfer them fine. Transfer, but remember there is no fan base like ours. There is no atmosphere like ours. It was that way before the Lotiefs and it will be that way long after.
So by all means, transfer out and forget about the program that gave you the opportunity. There are no greener pastures than what we offer.
There's a lot for them to think about. I guarantee you that they could and would welcome a new coaching staff... and flourish as a team.
If Michael's health had forced him to leave last or this year, all would have stayed under a new coach. There had to be space in the sisterhood that Mike did not belong. There has to be a bond among athletes that transcends the coaches.
I wonder what piranha coaches out there are already taking advantage of this and are poaching on some of our athletes.
LSU has already offered DJ
