Cajuns win 3 sets to 1. 19-9 overall 12-2 conference
An efficient offensive attack and stout front-line defense propelled the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-16, 13-25, 25-18, 25-22) win over Troy on Saturday at Trojan Arena.
It was an awesome, hard fought win. This team is good!
Brightest light on campus right now shines on UL Volleyball.
GrantVB said this year would be different.
My oldest daughter and I watched last night. The libero (which is what my daughter plays during Spring club season) made some very nice diving digs.
Brianna Franklin from over here at George Ranch High School (her brother is a redshirt freshman receiver for the Cajuns) accepted a scholarship to UL for next year. She’s also libero, and hustles like hell on the court, so it’ll be interesting to see if she can get any playing time from our current player at that position.
So Grant, what are our chances at the NCAA tournament now?
Unfortunately, NCAA tournament is P-5 biased in volleyball too. The Big 10, PAC-12 and Big East are the multi-team conferences. Big 12, SEC and ACC do fair in team placement. The non-P5s that receive at-large bids usually do about 24+ wins. So, unless they win the conference, they’d need to make it to the conf tourney champion game and send it to 5 sets. Win out this regular season of course. That would put them at 22 wins. If they win out and finish #2 seed, they automatically get a first and second round bye assuring them a semi spot.
16 conference AQs. 48 at-large
Are the AQs determined by regular season or tournament?
Also, Grant, do you have a kid on the team or one who used to play for them?
No. My youngest (11) plays rec and middle school. But we’ve always loved vball and supported the team. My HS junior and the middle schooler have attended Cajuns camp. Heather needs our support.
