This whole conversation is irrelevant if he has a bad quarter. Hud will put Davis or Nunez back in.
I kind of agree, but I have seen some pretty talented true frosh QBs crash and burn in their first collegian start. He definitely did not do that. I hope he does not lose confidence after the next game facing a SEC line. They will have film on him and will undoubtable try to shut down his running and force him to pass. We shall see.
Wow. Y'all are a tough crowd. I thought, for his first collegiate game, in a year he thinks he won't even see the field as a true freshman, he did great. I think a lot of the criticism is a pivot off of the aggravations with Hud. Levi deserves some time to get used to the college game. Just the speed of the game, much less being a little nervous, at this level is a lot different than high school.
I remember my first debut in my thong. You guys would never have believed that I wasn't spectacular in my first outing either. But I wasn't the magnificent thong strutter on day one you've all come to admire.
Levi has a lot of the same attributes as Greg Ward Jr. He was the QB for Houston the last few years.
To be clear, I'm not down on the kid. I appreciate the fact that it was start #1.
I'd be curious to the reaction had the SAL defenders caught the interceptions that were dropped in their laps. Even with all that said, we scored 19 points, 0 of which in the second half. I'm a firm believer that Hud-ffense exists, and that we went into a shell, again, in the second half; I don't lay that at the feet of Levi. He essentially proved Hud's theory that an athletic QB can win you games in this league without being a good passer.
There were certainly some things to like about him. I think the biggest take away was his pocket awareness and his ability to make something out of nothing. It also seemed like the other 10 guys were "in" on Levi, and that's a great sign.
I will agree. He made some plays with his legs and looked good doing it and he showed poise. You know what? Nunez showed a ton of poise in his first game this year and he made a lot of people here forget about JD. The luster has worn off. Guys can always have a strong impact early when nobody has put eyes on them and had a chance to scheme for them. We've seen this a lot in recent years. My concern is moving forward. Even in the lowly SBC, people are now going to have something to go on and my guess is that he will not be as effective as a runner moving forward and he will have to make more plays in the passing game. Considering our lack of dynamic play calling there and somewhat ineffective line, I could see the offense getting stagnant once again just as it had with Nunez. I like Lewis a lot but i can also see having a long way to go before this offense is back on its game.
