I heard from just about everybody here that he was the guy and would be amongst the best we've had here. I know I heard this because that argument quickly went the direction that Hud was to be blamed for the last two seasons specifically since he stunted JD's growth by bringing in Jennings to take his playing time away. Do you not recall these statements by MANY here?

Everything changed for Davis after the injury at Texas A&M. He was playing very well prior to that occurring. He did not protect himself well on the sideline as he was getting hit and that effectively ruined his season. We will never know what type of season he would have had without the injury. I suspect he would still be the starter and our record would be the same.

I do not think he was THAT injured Mike. I think it got blown out of proportion after the ULM start. It was great cover for Hudspeth to insert a new QB. His history shows, he'll bench a QB for next to nothing. Put it to you this way.. I've asked anyone and everyone that may have knowledge of how "injured" he was. Never got a straight answer, and none of those folks ever said "Oh yea, his knee was messed up". More often than not, I got the smirk and nod.

......the negative sliding was for Davis....the rest was for Double L this year!!!

JD's injury at ATM changed his throwing mechanics for the second half. He started poorly the next game (Moanrow) and was pulled early. He didn't look ready to play. Since that time, he's played less fearless...guess that's a nice way of putting it.

He's got to throw caution to the wind if he wants a chance of starting again. If LL continues to produce positive results, that will may not happen. I was on the JD bandwagon coming out of the spring game. He looked ready to play and lead the team. He did a lot of offseason work on his craft, on his own time.

He needs to realize that his next chance to play could be his last and injury be damned. Easy to type, not easy to do.

We've talked about this at length in previous threads but I do not think this is completely true.

"Broken play" QB's always get hurt. Playbooks always get simplified. Guys lose confidence. And, the cycle repeats as the head coach looks to the bench for the next gifted athlete to play QB.

Hence, the offense will always regress with Hudspeth at the wheel.
    Wow.

It only took 2 games for the cycle to repeat.

I do not think the injury turned this entire season around. I do not think he was so injured that it made him throw into triple coverage on multiple occasions and made him turn the ball over 3 times a game. I think there is a correlation as to why he was passed over as a starter for a couple years and his reaction to this injury.

Well, having said that I also want to add that after seeing 3 qb's run this offense thus far this year, Davis was really the only guy to have the offense truly moving the ball consistently at times. I know that Nunez moved it well in the game he filled in for JD at home but he also seems to have some sort of maturity issues or leadership issues as well.

I'm bumping my own troll thread from three years ago. Two things:

1 - Basin Bear appears to have called it in just Reply #8. I do believe LL, despite some of the shortcomings us fans may see in our observations, has become a pretty good QB for our program.

2 - This shows how much Levi has progressed. Congrats to the young man.
