he Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team opens up its 2017-18 season at home on Oct. 31 at 7 p.m., against LSU-Alexandria with the first of two exhibition games they'll play over the next week.
BUILDING CAJUNS: The game against LSU-A is the first stepping stone for the Cajuns season, where they'll look to build off the success they had in the 2016-17 season where they finished with the deepest run they've had in the Sun Belt Conference tournament, reaching the final game for the first time since 2007.
BE ON THE LOOKOUT: The Cajuns have two up-coming milestones. Senior Simone Fields is 28 points away from 1,000 points on her career. While head coach Garry Brodhead enters the season with 92 career wins putting him eight away from 100.
CAJUNS BACK IN TOWN: Louisiana returns three seniors Fields, Troi Swain and Nekia Jones from last season's lineup. Joining their senior teammates are sophomores Jasmine Thomas, Malachi-Seraphin Williams, Kimberly Burton, Brittney Myles and red-shirt freshman Danyale Bayonne. All five women should get significant playing time through the season.
NEWCOMERS A PLENTY: Joining the Cajuns returning from last season, are a strong freshmen class that will play an important role for the Cajuns throughout the season. They include Skyler Goodwin, Ty'Reonne Doucet, Mylisha Hammond and Jomyra Mathis.
Senior Kendra Howard and junior Brooke Jolivette both sat out last season as transfers, and they'll look to be key contributors this season for the Cajuns.
