The turnaround they've made the last couple weeks on defense has been pretty impressive. Yards have been drastically and we've given up a quarter of the points per game over the last two that we did prior to that. Whatever reason you want to give for that turnaround, that is hopefully here to stay, he should get some credit for it.
There is no question in my mind that if we have been playing defense this sound from the beginning we could very easily be 5 and 1 at this point. And I agree,my having been the recepient of criticism and praise, Hud and the staff deserve credit for the last 2 weeks. Just as they deserved the criticism for the first 4 games.

All of these corrections are symptom corrections. They do NOT address the disease.
IF Hud would have learned SEVERAL years ago - and followed what he should have learned - that he is not a details coach and to allow his position coaches and coordinators to COACH, we would:
    1. Not have YEARLY "slow starts"
    2. Completely different outcomes / results for each quarter of every game
    3. 8-10 game wins for the past 3 years
    4. And (for Hud fans), little to no talk of firing Hud.

I wouldnt say we have fixed our defenaive troubles. Texas state isn't exactly a powerhouse

And who is to say he was micromanaging? This is my point. They do bad it is assumed, not proven that he is micromanaging and when they do well he is letting the coaches coach. I give Lucas just as much criticism for the first 4 weeks defensive play as I do Hud.

You are right and we likely won't fully fix them IMO. But, at least we are getting pressure on the QB and getting sacks. This will make teams play from behind the chains more and QB's will have to make quicker decisions that hopefully lead to some turnovers. The fact we've given up 12 ppg the last two games will put you in a position to win which couldn't be said the first four weeks of the season. I'll take it.

HUD's overused terminology was used preseason by Lucas. Lucas did not use any HudSpeak last year.

I'm not saying micro manage (though I probably have) I'm saying trying to hard to earn his paycheck as displayed by his massive fingerprint on the defense early on.

Nonsense! You are not to wait and see if we are actually better defensively... you are to praise Hud immediately. For some people that frequent this site... they cannot simply participate in the topics... they have to read this forum to determine what fan or group of fans they need to criticize this week.

They think otherwise... but the biggest aggravation about this fan forum... are the self appointed fan forum police that believe it's necessary to continuously evaluate the fans on this forum. I love the differences of opinion. To knock the fact that this forum is rich with opinion... is pathetic.

We are not talking about the barometer of our athletic programs... we are the barometer. If you see an issue... on balance... with a lot of fans on this forum... the program(s) has a problem. Not the other way around.

I visually interpret certain people on this forum as some dufus sitting in the stands at a game. When the fans cheer... he stares at them... not the game. When the fans boo... he stares at them... not the game. Then his big comment after the game is that fan cheering and booing aren't in alignment with his view of the program... and he disputes that a certain time they were cheering shouldn't have happened... because only minutes before they were booing. Knock yourself out dufus.

PS Cajunref, you are not the dufus. You are correct... we need to see what this defense (and offense) have in them (including the coaching) once we get into play with the better teams in the SBC. I hope we win out. But I will make assessments on a frequency of my own choosing... as we win or lose. Because I'm just one more fan.

We are the definition of the observer effect. We change what we observe...you can't unravel the fan and the thing the fan is a fan of....

I loved that song by the Beatles.

"Loo Loo KaChoo I am the DuFuss."
