Don't mix arguments. Health Care is a rat hole that will leave us all fuming and off topic.
The topic is independence in sports. I agree 1000% with Turbine. How we approach this is a different matter. Many of you are disagreeing with a "rip the band aid off" scenario where we wake up one day and we're completely Indy.
This is going to have to be a piecemeal approach.
First, nothing happens until we have an agreement in place with the NOLA Bowl to take us first if we are eligible or we have created a new Energy Bowl for Lafayette like Boise had the Humanitarian. Once that agreement has been signed for whatever date in the future, we announce Independence in Football on that day.
Second, we place the other sports in a new conference for the time being. The SBC will kick us out. If the SLC will have us, we join them and never miss a beat. If they refuse, there are other options with the MVC being the dream scenario and ending with the Atlantic Sun as the last option that will work, and they would take us in a second.
After a few years of adjustment with scheduling, if whatever conference we are in for the other sports seems to be hindering progress in those sports, then we do the full Monty.
At the end of the day, if this experiment proves undoable, it's not like the SBC or CUSA would not want us.
Concerning what will happen in the future of College Football....let's see some "outside the box" thinking.....I will now log out of the site and return to my bunker.....
If going independent was this awesome idea for G5 schools, why aren't more doing it? Especially schools in CUSA and SBC that get very little television money.
Softball and baseball would find it impossible to schedule as an independent. Reason is virtually all schools are in a conference and fill up 10 weekends or 30 conference games with conference play. Being independent in football only is what it's Advocates are proposing is what I believe. However that assumes we have a conference for other sports and that is very unlikely.
