Houston, I know you probably get tired of me saying this but I don't get to say it often enough. At game's end we were called the most important name there is; WINNER. I understand you have passion about the name. I have passion about our teams winning at a high percentage. In fact, Dave Schultz (morning guy on 103.7 FM here in town) was making fun of us for worrying more about being called Louisiana than beating ULM. His point was that it was still a terrible result two weeks ago despite some outlets calling us Louisiana. Don't get me wrong, I would love to win and be called Louisiana or UL. Given a choice however, I will take the victory every time. After all, we don't get to celebrate them nearly often enough.
I agree. I didn't get a chance to watch much of the game but noticed Joel Meyers was the play by play guy. He has been doing professional sports for a long time and is the resident New Orleans Pelicans Play by play guy as well. Some don't like his voice but there are few better than him if you can get past that.
Agree to disagree here. We will still not get respect if we lose frequently while being called Louisiana. We do agree that the best case scenario is to win and get name we want. Still ask yourself if you are asked if you would prefer to be called Louisiana and lose or win as ULL. You only have 2 choices in this question.
True, it's all in how the argument is presented. Winning a few Sun Belt games here and there and still being called ULL or Lafayette is not moving us forward. The big picture is being called Louisiana and moving forward with that at the earliest possible time. It has no relation to winning a game anyway. We want both, so progress on either topic is progress towards our goal of having a nationally competitive football program and being called Louisiana while doing so.
Ultimately this isn't a wish list. We either fight for the correct name or lose the war. Lincoln said he'd take a slave union if it could exist with a free union , but it could not.
Ultimately winning as ULL, UL Lafayette, and the ridiculous U La La is so much more difficult than UL, or Louisiana there's no choice.
I'm not the least bit worried about what some local guy thinks on his puny radio window. I'm worried about what Maggard, and TJoe think about this coach. We've either got buyers remorse or a different view of who should run the program. ULM has a consament dignified head coach. We've got an egotistical hard head. He came here with a unsubstantiated negative. He's landed us on the NCAA sh i t list. Rumors of player abuse not addressed.
Ultimately I have to reject your either or challenge. Mike you're supposed to be the guy grounded in reality, not fantasy island.
I get your frustration, but the reality is we're winning the war. I'm hoping it'll be totally won before we reach room temperature, but we'll eventually win. Never expect your dreams to come true in Louisiana because of all the issues discussed over and over. We're being called Louisiana by more, and most people these days.
Any attempt to go rogue and officially us UL would be immediately quashed, and additionally legislation inacted to ban the niche we've carved out with Louisiana. This isn't the hill to die on, about some lazy azzed announcer.
