Thread: New system: LA averaging 40-plus points per game

  1. UL Football New system: LA averaging 40-plus points per game

Through four games, UL's new offensive system seems to be working under first-year coordinator Will Hall.

40 points a game? That's fantastic! If I hadn't watched this team play defense I'd guess they were 4-0. Look at the bright side- I promise you we will NOT lose today. Can't lose. We will give up 0 years and 0 points in the process, too. It's going to be a good day.

Early morning Saturday bye week sarcasm.

How did this team get so lopsided? How has one side of the ball been severely depleted... while the other seems to be flourishing? How are the factors affecting one, not affecting the other... in the same program?

I don't know that I've ever seen a program have offensive success while suffering horribly defensively... in the same year. It is immeasurably more difficult to recruit and sustain an organized and productive offense year to year... than to recruit and reconstitute a defense year after year (layering athletes from redshirts to seniors). This makes no sense to me.

I've seen offenses go to pot when they shouldn't have... due to a dominant skill player (QB... perhaps a RB) get hurt or graduate. But this defense's excuse just doesn't add up. The excuses for this program... if you grant them any... are across the board... offense and defense. It makes no sense.

We have a first year OC... and a second year DC. The DC supposedly improved the defense in his first... somewhat... full year. What happened? I know we lost a couple of studs... but everyone saw that coming for a couple of years. Why hasn't our defense been self-perpetuating... like other programs? If you have that answer... why wasn't the offense afflicted similarly?

Could it be that since Hud gave up the offense this year, he took over the defense AGAIN?

"But when West Georgia had a taller-than-usual quarterback in 2016, it adapted and went more from under center than it would have otherwise."

This type of offensive adaptation to fit the personal, is something UL hasn't seen since Stokley was HC.
