Thread: 2017 Enrollment

  1. Poll 2017 Enrollment

For the fourth year in a row, a record number of students have enrolled at the University of Louisiana.

Total enrollment for the Fall 2017 semester is 19,291 students, up from the 19,188 students who enrolled last fall, said Dr. DeWayne Bowie, UL’s vice president for Enrollment Management.

“The University continues to attract students from across the country and the world. We have students from every parish in Louisiana, from 48 states and from over 70 countries,” Bowie said.

Increased enrollment can be attributed, in part, to the growth in the University’s graduate programs. Overall, a total of 1,631 students are seeking graduate degrees this semester, which is 7 percent higher than the 1,521 students who enrolled last fall.

There are more graduate students for several reasons, including efforts to grow online programs and to add fellowship and assistantship stipends, said Dr. Mary Farmer-Kaiser, dean of the Graduate School.

“The University’s commitment to graduate education over the last few years is producing significant results at both the masters and doctoral level,” Farmer-Kaiser said.

Attracting a diverse student population also remains important, Bowie said. He noted, for example, an increase among students of Asian, Hispanic, Native American and Pacific Island descent.

The University also continues to admit academically-strong undergraduates.

Among the 2,982 students in the Fall 2017 freshman class, there are 114 high school valedictorians. “That’s our second-largest number ever,” Bowie said. The average ACT score for freshmen is 23.86. Their average cumulative high school GPA this semester is 3.37.

UL Freshmen today were in HS for 3 of UL's bowl appearances.

    Great advertising for Louisiana.

They probably didn't pay attention to the process at all, but you don't have to be paying attention to advertising for it to have a long term effect.

I spoke with a UL employee a few weeks ago they are fast passing the new Dorms & looking to build new halls ASAP because we are running out of room for students. Not a bad problem to have as well as Engineering quickly becoming the largest department at UL

Exactly what's your point? By the way they're still in the USNews top tier for whatever that says.

Yes, that is what I heard as well. That's what my thread last week was about: there are plans afoot to greatly increase our dorm capacity. As I stated in my earlier post, this is very important as increase our alumni base, and their loyalty to the school.

BTW: here is a copy of the 2011 Master Plan that shows that we are already have exceeded our enrollment goals for several years now.

....well the points would be pointed out to a greater degree if T nine would fix the RPagin....too hard typing on this small deal ---------but the article shows the continued rise in female enrollment in the state and don't think that the lady alumnae are as supporting to athletics as their male grads.....shows that ltur has a greater male percentage due to its technical enrollment........shows that our enrollment is nearly double their 12k....shows LSU at 35k and their peripheral undergrads at 11k......but mainly alerts us guys that women will rule the State of Louisiana in the future.....not sure of the exact demos on it, but just look at the real estate and now insurance sectors along with other professional areas....please t bine fix R Pagin!!!

I doubt many of your conclusions are valid. I do agree that women won't follow athletics as strongly as men. The great majority of men and women find their first spouses at the university they attended, so there's those men who'll bring their alum wives with them.

We're not nearly doubled LTUR enrollment. Women already rule the past, present, and likely future. At some point maybe colleges and businesses will quit putting everyone's lower ACT scores ahead of white males and asians for admissions, but that's going against diversity.
