If Davis is limited for this game, that will fall on Hud for not replacing him in the second half, at least after he threw the interception in that first drive. You don't risk someone as important as Davis in an OOC game just because he said he wanted to finish, despite a lack of mobility and impact on throwing. And, you do need to give the back up QB playing time, especially if Davis gets hurt again. Now, he has no game experience yet. Very perplexing how this was handled.
No it won't. I love when we start throwing blame at someone only when we can look back at it with 20/20 vision. After he threw the pick, we were in the game. If the player is telling you he can go and there is no medical diagnosis saying otherwise, you trust your player. If he was that hobbled due to the injury, I could argue that it was more on the player than the coach.
Cajuns 52 Hoax 38 Nunez comes in for a further dinged up JD and were asking why Hud played him at all.
Sometimes, you have to tell that guy with the C patch to stand down for the good of the team.
This is where a head coach with his experience has to make difficult decisions. If he was throwing the ball poorly (which he was at the time) and turning over the ball (which he was), he was hurting the team more than he could help at the time. Doing what's best for the team, isn't always what is best for the player.JMO
I would start this game with Ray in the wildcat and a hurry up offense. Even if Davis is healthy.
Cajuns 38
Monroe 27
We average 6 yards per carry and run the ball down their throats. End of story.
Speaking of Ford, Did we throw to him at atm?
True... but I can also see that it wasn't an obvious decision. By leaving Davis in, and giving our coaches a little benefit of the doubt, I think it said a combo of "Davis is healthy enough to stay in and possibly work through it, Nunez isn't ready for an A&M (busting his psyche before he even gets his college career started), and Ray's limitations won't turn this around".
My concern wasn't that we wasted a chance of winning. My concern was strictly with getting Davis further injured. Had he gone from ding'd to down for the year... and that could have happened... the fan house would have come down on Hud.
