I bet you could make a hitting facility look really nice and a significant recruiting tool on a small budget with brick to match the stadium, a metal tin-roof, wrap-around side-walk, Ragin Cajuns signage, and some landscaping to compliment the structure.
Four million dollar multi-story facility along Reinhardt near right field corner to include coaches offices, locker room, player lounge, indoor hitting and pitching facility, and a roof deck. Just guessing.
Please don't do that to me.....
I had a little FB chat with Guidry's iron works the other day saying that it would be great if they could design a new 'fence' around Cajun field. Of course he loved the idea. I asked them to get their sales guy to approach the university. Hopefully they will get together to discuss
Ah, Youth Park. Remember that litte concrete circle turnaround? Was a great place to "park" if you know what I mean. Until the pecan patrol caught you So, anyone have a blueprint of the project? Hopefully they bought the entire corner, where the mcdonalds, that used car lot, the sports field and also the UL merch store. Hopefully they will level that entire area. That is some prime real estate.
I've done a little poking around for more renderings of the project, with no luck so far. But I will continue the effort.
And I also have been really hoping that they have bought out the couple of businesses along Johnston, which were up for sale recently.....but I kind of think we did not buy them. Too bad, as they are a pretty much an eyesore whereas they could make it a really nice entry to the university.
They have started the construction of the new housing in the Dog Park/Lewis street area. Not much to see yet, just fencing and initial dirt work.....and my pics are that great, but hopefully this gives an idea of what's happening so far.
First up, on St Julien standing next to the fire station, looking towards the Dog Park. They have blocked off the end of St Julien.
Next, on Lewis st, looking toward the Dog Park. Interesting: the fencing goes all the way around the Red Zone, so I don't know if this means it will not be included, or, more likely, it will be a later, separate phase.
I have a BA in History, and a minor in City/Regional planning, so excuse my interest in stuff that might not be shared by others, lol. I guess that's also part of the reason why I like all the "On Campus" stuff about as much as like the athletic related posts, and why I have reviewed our Master Plan so extensively.
A small part of the plan that caught my eye recently was the proposed shifting of academics around…which at first seemed strange but once I mapped it out and understood what they were doing thought it was a very neat concept.
Basically, they are proposing turning the campus into academic zones…….moving all the Liberal Arts studies to the Quad, making the Rex Street area Math/Engineering/Tech, and (hopefully one day) dedicating the OLOL campus to Allied Health studies.
This would make (especially as upperclassmen) navigating around campus much easier/simpler/quicker…...E.G., if you are Liberal Arts major, most of your classes would be around the Quad.
Anyway, since we were talking about where a new Madison Hall would go on this thread a while back I thought I'd add this to the conversation.
Here is a summary of the detailed proposed moves:
Quad: becomes focus of Liberal Arts/English studies
M. Doucet: Add English/Liberal Arts, move Math to Griffin, Education to Girard.
Mouton: No Change, Sociology/Anthropology, etc.
Stephens: Add Liberal Arts, move Comp Center to DeClouet
Broussard: Add English/Liberal Arts, move Physics to Griffin
Lee& Foster: N/C, remains Admin Services
FG Mouton/Moody: N/C, remain Business
DeClouet : Add Comp Center, (Gen Studies program no longer offered)
Girard: Education only, move Liberal Arts (psychology, etc.) to Stephens/Doucet
St Mary
Wharton: assumes Nursing moves to OLOL campus, adds History/Geography/Philosophy/Psych
Rex St/Girard Pk: becomes focus of Math/Science/Engineering/Tech
Griffin: Add Engineering Admin offices, Math, Physics, Geology
Madison: Add 'Lab teaching space,' move admin offices to Griffin
Montgomery: N/C, Chemistry
Oliver: N/C, Computer Sciences
Rougeau: N/C, Ind Tech
