-hurt,
-didn't practice,
-didn't start,
-played a down or two,
-didn't finish the game on the field ...

scenarios that have ever happened, the quit part is the only anomaly.

And you're theory misses several key components. Most importantly, personal experience in the matter. As I said previously, I have people that will back me up on the conversations that were had about Holmes prior to the season and week 2.

I know nothing about how this functions with the average football team, but when a player is hurt, seriously hurt, doesn't the team physician have the final say as to whether he plays or not?

Theoretically. In the real world, no.

Having said that, Travis Soileau can come out and put a lid on this whole ordeal. Just has to say Tanner wasn't hurt.
