By his own admission, Hud's clueless on what's wrong or how to fix the defense.
I am clueless too on how to fix the defense. However, that is not my job.
Well, at least he's being honest about his ability
Let Lucas fix the defense.
One thing would be to get away from the 3-3-5 and move towards a 4-2-5. Walk down Tracy Walker into the box and become more aggressive with run blitzes.
We aren't doing ourselves any favors.
We have been switching between both thus far with not a lot of success with either but far less success out of the 3 front set. Like I've said before, I just don't understand running a 3 front set against teams who want to ram the ball down your throat. Our DL have taken their lumps here for their ineffectiveness but what are those guys supposed to do when they are getting mauled up front with no help?
Actually, I've found Corey Turner more effective in the box than Tracy Walker.
Giving up gaudy rushing yards has been an issue since Stewart was our DC. Lucas is running Hud's defense. The problem is...I do not think Lucas is a capable DC...just more of a yes man willing to do Hud's bidding. See Munoz last year on offense. We have a carpenter to fix a collapsed interstate bridge. Ill-equipped.
The "SWARM" defense phrase (and its associated turnover mandate) was used by Hud and Co. in the past. It was not used by Lucas last year. His use of it this year shows the hand of Hud.
Lucas did a fantastic job in 16 coming off the bench designing a quick fix for the defense, he should have been left to his own designs again.
