The fact of the matter is, what we put on film Saturday was pretty awful. But that might actually benefit us against Tulsa.

First of all, I refuse to believe that we're actually that bad. As unacceptable as it is to get caught flat footed in the opener against an instate FCS squad, it's still better than actually being a no talent defense. I don't believe we are that. DL and secondary are still in tact from a strong Defense last year.

Tulsa is still replacing their entire offense (not OL, but skill positions), Tulsa looked plenty shaky on defense (granted against OSU, but the best thing we did Saturday was score points), and Tulsa SHOULD be within our goals as a WIN.

I know we're plssed off. But the truth is, you benefit a lot more from an ugly win, than you do from a blistering domination. We get the best of both worlds here: The guys feel like they lost and coaching staff get to hammer and teach them as if they lost.

We still have a full season to play.

LB play will get better over time but man I sure miss Otha .. DL played like Bit-ches and should be treated as such

As bad as we played in the first half, we held SLU to one TD in the second have for 28 mins. We then played prevent defense and let them move 95 yds in 2 mins to almost tie the score or win the game. A lot of adjustments will be made going into week 2. Tulsa was not that impressive, although they were playing OK State. Let's see if we can go to the swarming, blitzing defense Lucas talked about. I'm hoping we just played base offense and defense and, although it almost cost is a game, we still won.

Losing to FCS schools happened over the weekend. Glad we were not one of them.

Agree. Although it looked like we were repeatedly trying to give away the SLU game, it's better to be us this morning then Texas AM who gave away their game to UCLA.

A big concern this week is will our defense improve enough to be able to stop the run?

Well, I know for a fact we showed very little offensively and defensively against SLU in preparation for Tulsa. It was the plan all along. So there's some solace in that.

I also know for a fact that the team has marked Tulsa as a W on their goal schedule.

Who were we missing on defense that may return to action this week? I'm calling that guy our hero before any of you do. Or perhaps Lucas will look over his shoulder against Tulsa... and say, "Rudy, you're up.". Who actually wants to play defense this week for the Cajuns? Who actually wants to run towards and tackle the man with the ball? Let's play those players this week.

I know Tracy was out the first half. I didn't see a lot of Tanner Holmes, but didn't hear if he got dinged or not? This was also Posey's first start at Mic, so I'll expect a big step forward Saturday.

We are definitely going to have to tighten up on defense, especially on the weak side. SLU pounded the ball on that end all night. Tulsa will do the same if we don't improve on that end of the field.

As for this past Saturday, we won the game. I'm happy about that. However, it was SUPPOSED to be a win. Not to mention, giving up over 500 total yards to ANY FCS school is downright unacceptable. Period. Maybe one to two exceptions there (North Dakota State/James Madison) is ok. But this upcoming game against Tulsa will tell us all we need to know to see where we are at as a team and where we might need to be. Let's hope it's a good performance.
