But he was saying that we need to have better competition. Again, we've seen better competition come in and our attendance has not matched the competition. There is a growing apathy that resides and it is due to more than one factor. I just can't pinpoint what they all are.

BTW, Boise was a marquee game. That was the one game where you would think that people would turn out in droves. They didn't. McNeese was another where it doesn't need to be a marquee game. With the past rivalry we've had with them, we should always have a near capacity crowd at the least. Didn't happen either.

I'll say it again. People don't come because they don't think we can win those marquee games. You have to show the ability to compete and win in order to peak interest.

Just having Boise St on the scoreboard is not going to attract fans.

The Boise game also kicked off at 11 (IIRC) which drives off the casual fan. That marquee matchup was screwed from the beginning.

Respectfully disagree, JC. Lafayette hasn't cultivated a football crowd, but Lafayette is certainly a bandwagon town. People will get up early and often to be a part of something special. This program is a strong season and a marque win away from filling the stadium again. If we go up to Tulsa and WIN, watch the crowd double against ULM. Better yet, if this team were to somehow beat A&M, the buzz would be back, and the azzes would be back in the seats at CF.

As long as the marketing subject remains "Lafayette" the crowds will lack numbers.

    Not a broad enough base.

The invitation, attraction, and mention needs to be Acadiana and Louisiana at large for any chance at growth.

Beat a team that even the most casual sports fan recognizes and the marketing will take care of itself..

You left out "at home," because if you didn't experience it, it didn't happen.

Obviously experiencing it at home would add to it, but if our guys could win a P5 game and get national coverage for a week, the stadium would be SRO.

Seriously though, keeping interest is a responsibility of the half time activities and these days people have super short attention spans.
Maybe they are fans of good defensive football teams and just couldn't take anymore.

You should not underestimate the whole trump video and response debacle when looking at crowd size this year. In just last week I personally talked to several long time fans who did not renew their tickets because of it.
