They are hard-wired. It started on Fridays when they were kids. Attendance is more presumption than decision. Texans generally don't consider what else they could be doing on Friday night or Saturday.
For a non-Longhorn fan like ATXCajun, it is the best time to go to HEB. Nobody there. As it turned out this Saturday, my wife and I shared the most popular indoor gun range with 3 other shooters. That was nice.
Everyone wants to dog the student but at least they showed up for half the game the chair back seats on the home side were more than half empty for the entire game to me that's a bigger problem.
That is an indication of a problem (empty chairbacks). You don't ____ off fans. You can ____ off athletes, you can ____ off your wife, you can ____ off your mom... but as a head football coach... you never ever ____ off fans. And if one of your radio surrogates thinks he can... you take the biggest sweat loaded jock and stuff it in his mouth. You never ever ____ off fans.
When you do ____ off fans... because your IQ is in double digits... you make very sure you are so great at coaching football, singing, or acting that despite your insignificant contribution to mankind... you are untouchable.
As for students... we don't have any issue that any other school does. They're young, dumb and full of energy. It takes something pretty special to get them to stay and watch an FBS team tread water with an FCS team. When you heard things as a grade schooler/ high schooler like "I'm going to put a fence around Louisiana"... and after year 7... your biggest fantasy is to reproduce what you did in year 1... when you didn't have "your system" or "your players" installed yet... it's hard to get free spirited students to follow you. I actually thought highly of those that showed up in the first half. It proves... once again... that fans are and never were our problem.
