I dont think fans/students leaving before the end of the game has anything to do with the opponent, how we are playing, or is even football related. If the game is tied at half with 70 points scored, how can anyone say it's a football problem? While not good "football" from a technical perspective, the back and forth scoring is what most fans want to see. I'm not sure what the rationale is other than short attention spans and I'm equally perplexed on how or even if you can solve it.

I thought fans like to watch their teams win against other schools that any other state would know who they are!

Yeah, your comments remind me of the Auggie days (sure wish I could recall that OC's name) where we'd lose a game 48 to 45 but most fans left happy because of the fireworks on the field.

What do you guys think of the new fan experience? I was disappointed about not being able to find Deanos pizza and still crappie nachos.

The ones that left at half, now think football is 100% scoring all the time.

Seriously though, keeping interest is a responsibility of the half time activities and these days people have super short attention spans.
Yep. And this isn't just a UL issue. It's been well documented that many other schools/teams are seeing lower attendance and are making drastic changes to the game day exp. A lot of us on this board may not even recognize a college football game day experience in another 10 years

  7. UL Football Re: Halftime Retention

Let's face it, students have been sitting in a baking sun forever. That's not the reason that they leave. They're leaving because we're not relevant in the current football world, and top it off not very good at being non relevant.

Doc, it's simple. They can shoot fireworks and have gourmet nachos, ...

Until we start playing and BEATING upper tier CFB teams, there will always be an attendance problem. Real fans of the game don't care about the ancillary crap at games. We want to see good football and we want to see wins. We want to be relevant, and compete with the best. That's the real draw; that's what made major college football so appealing. Not nachos and fireworks.

Last night was pretty much equivalent to a JV football game in the college arena.

Of course it won't have the same draw & interest as Varsity team.

Agreed. But my point is that doing all of what you said will still result in the same behavior over time. People get jaded quickly. Even top teir teams are running into the same issues.
