While I wanted to see us blow them out as much as anyone, I'm not ready to hit the panic button, especially considering the last couple of year's performance on offense. Again, I was most concerned about our ability to score, against anyone, and at least there's some real signs of life there.

Opening weekend and teams such as Illinois, Oregon State, Pittsburgh, ECU, Baylor, Nebraska, etc are all saying, WTF, today. It happens every year.

Now, if the rub is really just a continuation of the discussion of our coaching woes, then that's a horse of a different color.
    Howard beat UNLV too.

I know what today would have felt like if we lost. It would have made for a very depressing Labor Day. The game was tough to watch, but I'm really, really pumped that we won.

I know it's early and it's not saying much but in my opinion, we are a LITTLE better than we were last year.

Good point....several Sunbelt team competed with SEC teams yesterday for 2-3 quarters. Has it been almost five years (Florida) since a Hud coached team was not out of the game when playing a P5 team?

If our staff would of had Davis run more clock down before the snap on 2nd and 3rd down up by 7 and under 5 minutes the end of the game, ran instead of thrown on third and let the ball roll dead inside the 10 instead of rush and down it at the 5, you would had been in the parking lot. There is a good 30-40 seconds of clock we gave SLU.

    Poor clock management.

Yes, couldn't believe they threw the ball on third down. Pretty upsetting that when it counts this Coaching staff is not confident enough in o-line to gain 4 yards against FCS d-line.

When you can actually see players lack desire to make a tackle on a kid half their size in a home opener, that's a major warning sign.

My comments are not projecting forward at all. I'm specifically talking about what we saw last night. 2 of the 3 phases were horrendous. HORRENDOUS. Our defense was lost. Even worse, completely and thuroughly manhandled by a team that is not even in the division of football that we are a member of. THAT IS UNACCPETABLE. Period, end of conversation.

As I respect you opinion I will say this there are only 4 sunbelt teams that won and we are one of them. So do you respect a team that lost last night more than a team that won. it doesn't matter how you win or by how many points as long as you beat the teams you are suppose to beat and we did that. Lets see what happens at Tulsa then we will have factual data to judge this team on.

This was bad, bad football. WE won. To try to find anything positive other than that is risible.

    WTF has happened here?

Yes, I respect a Sunbelt team who competed with a P5 squad yesterday more than The Cajuns today. Next week those teams will get their cupcake game and be playing their backups in third quarter, as they should be.

Next TWO weeks Cajuns will be completely out classed same as we have seen last four years when Cajuns play a P5 team (and 90% of out of conference G5 games).

Like I said, I'm not writing the story of the year based on last night.

But comparing last nights win to anything (other than awful Geo St) is being naive. A 6 point loss to Nebraska is miles ahead of what we 'accomplished' last night. We were a bad decision by the QB on a two point attempt away from losing to SLU. I don't get the "yea but" folks..

Even if we hadn't made the 4 yards we'd have still eaten a lot more clock and probably forced them to use a timeout.
