Still very high on our WR corps, although Jacquet was brutal last night. Ragas and Mitchell showed their potential as well.

Feels like I post this every year, but you "a win is a win" people either don't know ____ about football, or are casual fans that care more about socializing than watching and analyzing what's happening on the field. Either way, spare the rest of us from your drivel. Several here put in tons of time, effort, money, support, emotion, and sacrifice for this program to open a season like that. No, it's not ok. No, it wasn't "well SLU came to win". STOP.

I never bought into the saying that there is no such thing as an ugly win. Last night was the textbook definition of that.

Davis is improved but needs work
    Running game looked pretty good
    Calais is a man

This has the making of a typical Hud team. Score like a video game and just hope for a couple of stops on defense to win the game.

We don't win 6 games this year. I'd be thrilled with 6 but I just don't see it.

.......Well most things have been covered but in the punt situation, I have been scared of ours being blocked and rushed......this caused the non hang time on a great sky high kicker,,,,,, what really irked me were the 2touchbacks on great end over Knicks that should have been downed inside 3 yard line....gave up about 40 yards of field position....llI was very impressed with SLU's offense....huge line that stayed with blocks....a Great running back....QBs with wheels and accurate throwers and glad that some were dropped although there were some great catches!!!

Did anyone else notice that the clock did not move during the two point attempt and subsequent run back? It stayed at 14 seconds the entire play. I know because my wife was watching the clock instead of the game. She was ready to go.

Game clock doesn't run on a PAT.

Do we still win that game with Jennings at QB? I feel he would have thrown a pick at some critical point. Davis was not anything special and he certainly missed a few throws, but he didn't turn it over.

Should we even be talking about whether one pick would have decided the game against SLfreakinU?

I know. I'm just trying to find anything to feel a bit better about the situation. Davis and the Cajuns protected the ball. That was positive. We'll never know if a key turnover would have done us in, but Jennings had a tendency to find defensive backs with his passes.

Oline played better against smaller Dline.
Calais is fast. Davis can throw the deep ball.
Trahan from AHS has a clue. Will Hall isn't scared to open the playbook. Raheem Malone could be Harry Peoples.

Outside of that, we know nothing.

Understood MAT, but still, it's possible SLfreakinU will turn out to be a pretty good squad this year.

While I wanted to see us blow them out as much as anyone, I'm not ready to hit the panic button, especially considering the last couple of year's performance on offense. Again, I was most concerned about our ability to score, against anyone, and at least there's some real signs of life there.

Opening weekend and teams such as Illinois, Oregon State, Pittsburgh, ECU, Baylor, Nebraska, etc are all saying, WTF, today. It happens every year.

Now, if the rub is really just a continuation of the discussion of our coaching woes, then that's a horse of a different color.

I would love to be able to come on here @RP and praise the team for all kinds of things, because this is the only college team I care about and I want to have a nationally competitive football program. It's tough, and I see the effort by the players, I think they are trying. I blame it all on the coaches, specifically Hud. This team does not look talented, which is the result of recruiting. I know there are a few exceptions, but you can't field a winning football team with 5 talented players. Also, I'm not impressed with the scheme of either the offense or defense.

Thing is much of what we saw on defense and special teams is players not playing their assignments. That falls on coaching.

For every Howard and Liberty there are 30 other games like VMI, Jackson St, CCSU, Fordham... I can go on and on. We are the KINGS of "yea but" around here. The team was not ready to play. When you can actually see players lack desire to make a tackle on a kid half their size in a home opener, that's a major warning sign.

My comments are not projecting forward at all. I'm specifically talking about what we saw last night. 2 of the 3 phases were horrendous. HORRENDOUS. Our defense was lost. Even worse, completely and thuroughly manhandled by a team that is not even in the division of football that we are a member of. THAT IS UNACCPETABLE. Period, end of conversation.

Meanwhile, our peers (by whom we should be judging ourselves) went out and competed with PAC12, MWC, Big 12, AAC, and SEC. The majority of them didnt embarrass themselves, rather, they competed.

And here we are making excuses for why SLU is "might turn out to be a good team".
