Thread: SLU Triple Option?

We fare better against the run than the pass. QBs that can stand in the pocket and sling it have picked us apart in the past (at least last season.) See Idaho, Boise, App State games vs. G. Southern and TU. I'd take an option team out the gate over a pro style.

Did you watch the Ga So game last year? If you did you would know they did not run their typical tripple option, as they did in previous years under Fritz. They were using their 3rd team QB due to injury. Fritz had not been able to recruit the atheletes he needs to run the option in just one year, so neither of those are good examples. SLU has a 4.3 speed QB very suited for that O. You are also referencing last years D which had very good linebacker play to stop the run. LB is a huge ? mark on this D. This year our DBs will be the strong point so you'd think pass D will be better. Pass D is more about the rush that it is about coverage. You can not cover a receiver for ever. If D line play is not good they can run option or pass it don't matter we'll be in trouble either way.

We're not a classic triple option team like you see at Navy/Air Force/Army etc. We run a spread offense with a downhill style running attack, with some triple option principles mixed in. We threw it about 25 times per game last year.

So a Spread Option Offenses unless the QB lines up under center

We run some spread option, but we're more diverse than that. I don't think we've lined up under center since 2013, maybe a few times in 2014.

Ga State lost to FCS Tenn State last night. It's not that uncommon for this sort of thing to happen. UL better be ready to play four full quarters of inspired football against SLU.

Not nearly as often as you imply.

    You were saying?

Seriously, no FCS team should ever be able to beat an FBS team. An FBS team should have a tremendous depth advantage just due to the difference in scholarships allowed to the two. Still, we've seen several examples of FCS teams upsetting FBS teams already this year.

No FCS team should beat a power 5 FBS due to huge budget disparities, but FCS wins and close games with G5 teams are relatively common. The gap is a lot slimmer between better FCS programs and G5, than G5 and P5.
