Thread: SLU Triple Option?

  1. #1

    Default SLU Triple Option?

I heard Hud mention at his pres confrence that SLU is an option team that will run a lot of triple option at us. I did not know that. That is always a scary situation as our D never sees that. That style O can be the equalizer if guys aren't discipline and get out of their responsibity. I hope the D is practicing with no football this week.

Georgia southern didn't run the triple option last year against us for 2 reasons 1 they were down to there 3rd QB who is more of a spread guy and 2 the new OC was trying to move away from it. He has been fired and a new OC from Ga Tech was hired to go back in the option direction. Fritz didn't have the personnel to run it in his first year at TU. HUD said the QB is a legit 4.3 guy transfer from South Carolina.

A better example of what the option can do for an undermanned team is see what Ga So did to Florida 2 years ago or how our undersized military academy's compete against bigger more physical defenses all the time. That O has me more nervous today than I was a week ago.

Im on the other side I feel 1000x better going up against a flex team than a spread with the D we run everyone fills a gap and play smart football

Clearly the key to winning this game will come down to who wins the turnover battle

Not scared of the triple option at all.

    I agree.

Our pass defense always worries me--especially when our corners line up 10 yards off the line.

I would rather face the TripOpp right out the gate than 7 games into a season when you're hopefully in a groove.

........remember that the option offense necessitates assignment defense with particular defensive positions responsible for certain parts of the option scheme.....if these assignments are missed, dive, keep, and pitch results in big time success....like T-Bine mentioned, glad we got them with some video and practice time!!!

They will run a 2 qb system so that tells me all the QB will do is key off on playside DE

Our defense will need all of 2 possessions to figure out and shut down SLU. Not worried about them in the least. This will be a lopsided victory and we still won't know what kind of team we have. Tulsa will be the measuring stick.
