If we're determined to go this route I suggest "Vieux Nègre", a wise old créole sage who speaks in riddles and rhymes.

Apparently there's zero consensus about the mascot on this board. Will it be any better in the general public? Whatever is chosen will probably require a very strong marketing push by UL.

Unlike all other mascots, there's no single thing that denotes the Cajun WILL. The will to keep ones religion, language, and choose ones allegiance. Even to the point of being a refugee by choice. No gator, dog, chicken, or buffoonish characters.

I might add they survived with a sense of humor intact and they invented boudin...

IDK, the Gator has been able to maintain all of that since 1898 at The Swamp. LOL.

Well they did fence in the (30 feet away from the field) Gators in 1901 so they could play football.

Do we have anything that rivals that 116 year tradition?

Any animal choice only serves to further muddy the waters as to our identity. My first choice is just don't have one. Follow maybe by Cajun man or something absurd like the chicken, which is just a parody character not a mascot.

if standford were to introduce their cardinal mascot today, they would get laughed out of fbs. if western kentucky introduced the blob today it would get voted down with the quickness. those are two of the most recognizable mascots out there in todays world. im okay with cayenne as long as they get it right (stay away from the dildo look)
    Very true.

Only this. 1901 when it was reported the town "was ablaze with vermilion the institute color."

Agree with this. This whole idea that we need a mascot is archaic.

Having said that, how many major universities have athletics with no sanctioned mascot?
