Thread: Seeking a new center, UL looking at Horst in the middle

  1. UL Football Seeking a new center, UL looking at Horst in the middle

With 4-of-5 starters back, Ragin’ Cajuns coach Mark Hudspeth went into the UL’s 2017 preseason camp figuring his offensive line would be one of team’s biggest strengths.

After Saturday scrimmage, Cajuns coach says changes along the offensive line.

Uhh Yeah. Jordan Davis was just "OK" even though it wasn't a truly live scrimmage and we are looking to move our starting OT to Center? That screams desperation to me. We know what kind of trouble our tackles had last year with the outside rush and if Horst is moved, I can only imagine how much butt pounding we'll do to our interior line trying to minimize that rush. Good grief.

As I said prior to practice starting, OL is my biggest concern. Having Four starters back from a unit manhandled by USM in the bowl game is not necessarily a good thing.

Jordan will look much better in live situations than he does in scrimmages. When he is not live it completely takes his feet away. Des was about the worst starting QB we ever had in scrimmages but in live action he was a record breaker in total yards.

OL is a product of the OC .. pretty hard for 5 guys to block 7-8 cause they know we are running

My concern is that you are assuming he will look better in live situations.

Last year we couldn't block a 4 man rush, especially on the outside. Our line was bad last year and the current movement and comments by Hud indicate it may not be any more improved.

You and I are in agreement about the O line. I'm going to be a wait and see about their effectiveness. Last year was not promising. They appeared weak, and not very quick.

I have watched august scrimmages since Mitchell days. If he doesn't look better in live situations he will be the first athletic mobile QB we've had that doesn't.

In the end it really doesn't matter anyhow how he looks in a scrimmage. I guess I approach it from a perspective of game situation which is only what matters. My point was that if he couldn't excel in a situation for which he had limited things to think about, its hard when the bullets fly and he now has to make decisions on when to run and when to stick it out on his progressions. This is what truly concerns me about him.
