Hope he grows an inch or two and adds 25+ lbs in the next year. This DOES NOT look like a quality D1 signee on paper (hope I'm dead wrong)...Seems more like a roster filler that you find late in recruiting.

Sam Houston doing Sam Houston things

Agreed but he's a senior this year so another year until he's on campus.

Try this to get to know our future Ragin'Cajun. He's a 6A state champion.

Maybe, hopefully Marlin's into a talent before everyone else like he did with EP, and Shepard.

I noted he made the state championship all tournament team, was his team's leading scorer in Championship game, and is a good free throw shooter. Those are all encouraging stats. If they indicate he can contribute in college despite being 5' 10" is a question i cannot answer. Strange we take a commitment from someone that small 3 months before the early signing period. However he has time to physically mature and it is almost 1 1/2 years before he has to play in a college game. Could be longer if he redshirts. Kasey Shepherd was the last Texas HS player we took. He ended as one of our all time guys in steals and was a team leader at the end of his career. Kasey was also not recruited heavily. Hope this guy contributes At least at that level.

One more point on this. He is a member of a Houston area AAU team. I know the staff hit the AAU circuit hard earlier in summer. MAybe he did things there to warrant the scholarship offer. As i said earlier, It seems awful early to offer a guy that small. They must see some potential to do so.

    He's taller than Spud Webb.

Trivia: Spud Webb played a game at Blackham

I liked Kasey Shepard more than most, all the way back to his freshman year. But he is a good example of a Southland body type seems to be more of the norm nowadays. Physically, Dwayne Mitchell is the other side of the spectrum, and I'd rather us be closer to Mitchell than Shepard.....But that's just me.

Kasey is a fantastic young man. I would take 12 of him on my team.

I know you'll take this the wrong way, but I promise I mean no offense. Being a good young man is paramount in society; but not in competitive sports. I'm a big fan of Kasey as well, but 12 of him would get us run out of the gym on most nights. I'm very supportive of Bob recruiting class people (see 90% of our current roster) but it's time to WIN. I was part of the vocal few the expressed support for our results last year, but it's time to take a major step forward. New crib, influx of talent, new regime, new money coming in...

I know this: My calendar is being cleared for March. I think we'll have some traveling to do.
